Let me just get this out the way: Fire Pro Wrestling Returns is the best wrestling game ever. That's not an exaggerated statement -- you will not find a better mat simulator on the market.
  2. This is a rare gem of a wrestling game which, at under 20 quid, every grap fan is duty bound to try. [Mar 2008, p.98]
  3. There's no finer grap game out there. [Apr 2008, p.76]
  4. There's an amazing amount of depth in Fire Pro Wrestling Returns but if you can't get by the way the game mechanics work, the way it looks or its archaic menu system then you should just keep walking because there's nothing to see here.
  5. Compared to many other wrestling games, FPWR is a much more old school affair, but it is also extremely details oriented.
  6. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns is overtly geared for wrestling fanatics. That fact, coupled with its ridiculously cheap price tag, will be enough for the hardcore to give it a go, but casual wrestling fans will probably tap out.
  7. Don't expect much in the way of graphics and sound innovation; there isn't any. [Jan 2008, p.86]

If I was stranded on a desert island, and could only choose one game to keep with me, this would be it. If you're a wrestling fan, you'll completely appreciate how setting up feuds and leagues and tournaments never gets old. The level of creation and customization is staggering. Just about every move you've ever seen on TV is represented or has a close equivalent in the master list. Plenty of match types and you can create your own championships. Easy to play and learn, moves are based on precise timing, not button mashing or anything the current WWE games are forcing us to do, like stopping a fast moving icon in a specific part of a bar to escape a move. There is a basic reversal system, and the big moves are easy to pull off. One of the neatest features is the CRITICAL! system where certain moves can cause an immediate injury or knockout at complete random. They are semi-rare, and will always surprise you when it happens. Older style graphics may seem lame to some, but it allows for more sprites on the screen (8-man tag match, anyone?) and fast loading. Check out fireproclub.com for more info and a helpful community for sharing creations and tips. BTW, there are over 500 slots for your created characters, so you can create just about anyone you want, and have room to keep them! Collapse

What is there to say about Fire Pro Returns? It has a great gameplay system, you can have 8 people in the ring at once, 100s of wrestlers, with 100s more via a great CAW/Edit system (using other people's saves I have a file of over 800 real wrestlers to choose from!) and generally is just a blast to play. Only avoid if you can't play a 2D game or you like the faster arcade style of the Smackdown! series. Expand

A lot of fun, I wish we could get the others as well as King of Colloseum II.

This is by far one of the greatest wrestling games of all time. Great default roster (300+), great gameplay that utilizes timed button pressing, and beyond phenomenal customization with the ability to create wrestlers, rings, and referees. Expand

Unlike other games like smackdown, the TNA's and others during it's time and after, this game contains a huge roster, tons of moves and customization. Unfortunately it is 2D and takes some getting used to when it comes to the moves you can do.
Your patience and time practicing will pay off as it is an addicting game.
Right now this is one of my favorites, up there with the No Mercy's and Wrestlemania 2000's.
