  • Summary: Wars are not won alone. In a world where the Soviet Union won the Cold War, a fierce conflict is beginning to unfold in the streets of America. Red Army troops are pouring across the borders of Mexico and Canada shortly after a nuclear missile is unleashed on Washington D.C. Chaos sets in when breaking news informs Americans that their President has been killed and the Russians have invaded the country. You take on the role of Christopher Walker, a man who evolves into a charismatic and fearless freedom fighter obsessed with finding and freeing his brother in the streets of occupied New York City. 1. I haven't even talked about the nonlinear gameplay, the spectacular graphics, the rock-solid controls, the amazing physics (especially the rag-doll death animations - wow), the great variety of missions and settings, the solid voice acting, the awesome orchestral soundtrack, or the exceptional multiplayer. [Oct 2003, p.122]
  2. This game is a tasty piece of eye candy. All the environments are not only huge, but extremely detailed. It runs on the Same engine as Hitman 2, but looks much better.
  3. With the fabulous visuals, outstanding soundtracks, and easy to pick up gameplay, this is one game that you are sure to enjoy time and time again.
  4. The AI is surprisingly excellent - if you send a batch of troops out to scout, they will take up careful positions, scale machine gun positions, engage the enemy, and redeploy defensively without any more commands having to be issued.
  5. Its gripping gameplay and the great Cold War-inspired storyline will have you hooked until the last Russkie is dead. [Oct 2003, p.113]
  6. Relentlessly entertaining, finely crafted and smartly engaging. [Oct 2003, p.73]
  7. The game's great strength is the well-judged escalation of pace and scale. From your humble dungarees-and-pistol beginnings, the expansion of your squad means missions intensify from hit-and-run raids to large-scale onslaughts. And it is this, ultimately, which induces a sensation of swaggering brawn that allows the game's hiccups to be forgiven. [Oct 2003, p.99]

Probably the best early squad-based shooter. The shooting, the game mechanics, the graphics, everything was great about this game. We've been hearing about a possible sequel since 2004, yet none has appeared. One of the greatest potential franchises that was never tapped in to. Such a shame. Expand

I think that squad based gaming has never been this painless, definitely the best game of its type. BUY IT!!

Almost a 10, only b/c I want it to be longer. I LOVED playing it, for the sheer patriotism alone...the flag raising scenes never got old...I enjoyed kicking some soviet a**. I'm hoping for a sequel with online play. Collapse

Possibly one of the best tactical squad games ever, it is short and has a low replay value but the kick-assness of the story gameplay and graphics more that make up for that. Expand
