  • Summary: [Metacritic's 2007 PS2 Game of the Year] God of War saw Kratos, a mortal warrior, set upon an epic quest to dethrone a God. But his journey did not end there. In God of War II, Kratos sits atop his Olympus throne, as the new God of War – far more ruthless than Ares ever was. To end his continued torment, Kratos must journey to the far reaches of the earth and defeat untold horrors and alter that which no mortal, or god has ever changed, his fate. God of War II sets an epic stage for a devastating mythological war to end all wars. In God of War II, players retake the role of Kratos. Armed with the deadly blades and blistering rage, players are aided by new breath-taking magic and new brutal combat moves. The journey takes them through vividly striking environments where they are faced with a labyrinth of challenging puzzles and mini-games intricately woven into the story. The violent world of Greek mythology comes to life in gory detail as Kratos encounters new mythical characters, and compete in epic boss battles in his quest. [SCEA] Expand

As we begin to plan our eulogies for a truly superb console, how fitting it is that Sony delivers its final and finest offering. [Apr 2007, p.110]

It's a game that has everything.
  3. Its biggest problem is its length, and that its formula can't quite endure its sequel-dose duration. Whether or not it's overlong in terms of play hours may be a matter of preference, but it feels slightly stretched during its final third, exposing its shallowness a little in the process. This game was very well designed. The story was compelling and I enjoyed playing this game. The best game on the PlayStation 2 in my opinion. The sound effects were awesome, the different fights were designed masterfully and always kept me guessing. Overall, had a good time. Expand

This game has good, but glitchy graphics and decent play control, although repetitive. Puzzles are unbelievebaly annoying, enemies spawn around you constantly when you trie to accomplish something. You know the kind: You take one step forward pushing a block. Enemies spawn around you and beat you while youre trying to push the motherfucking block. You slide two steps back. You kill the enemies, take a step and new enemies spawn etc etc. AARRGH! One or two puzzles like this would have been enough but the game is full of them. Other than that and idiotic psychopath main character the game is decent. Expand

Horrible Game. The first one was very good and i thought that the First God Of War was a blatant rip off or Legendary Games like Ninja Gaiden, Prince Of Persia(1989) and Devil May Cry. But GOW II goes a step ahead. Same moves. Graphics are better. More ripping off of poor games like Legacy Of Kain. The Box Puzzle especially TICKED me off as it was a straight lift from their previous game. Its like Sony didn't have any ideas left. Sorry God Of War 2 is a Pathetic Game and God Of War 1 is far Better. All In All i will never consider GOW as a great game and in the league of Prince Of Persia, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry or any other Original Games. Only reason GOW is successful is because of its Gore. Expand
