  1. It still has all of the stuff that makes it a nice diversion from the typical baseball title. But that stuff hasn't changed enough to warrant a purchase.
  2. With its violence, online play, and deep franchise mode, this title will appeal to both hardcore and casual baseball fans alike.

This is no sim by any stretch, even with the new Franchise mode. Still, it is a decent game of belligerent baseball with mindless fun and laughs for anybody looking to play two - whether that's a doubleheader or just a deuce of innings. [July 2004, p.96]
  4. Outside of new pitch types and fielding animations, the over-the-top angle hasn't evolved at all in this iteration, and the new simulation aspect pales in comparison to al of the other titles on the market. [July 2004, p.114]
  5. A decent game, though the sim aspects aren't as well fleshed out as those in other baseball games available. And the over-the-top elements don't add enough to overcome those shortcomings.
  6. Pyrotechnics aside, this is a solid sports title.
  7. It serves up some decent arcade fun, but we've already been here before in the other Slugfest games, and the notable AI and control issues still need to be addressed.
  8. It flat out fails to cash in on its unique take on Major League Baseball. The Slugfest version of the game is dull and annoying.
