  1. PES 2009 on the PS2 continues to be the benchmark in soccer games. Its gameplay and multiplayer fun are unrivaled. It still inherits the classical flaws from the series and it doesn't include the Champions League licenses its next-gen brother has, but it is the best option to recreate a soccer game nevertheless. It is obvious that the machine can no longer provide further improvements.
  2. When it comes to playing soccer with your friends at home, few games can rival this version of PES. The tempo is higher and the player movement is a tad bit more realistic that it's new gen console counterparts. But with few additions and a lot of licenses lost it's hard to recommend this to anyone. Shame on Konami for basically letting us pay for the same content as last year.
  3. Apart from the Become a Legend mode, the new edition has nothing much to justify the acquisition for owners of previous versions.
  4. The game seems to have been made with a rushed hand. [Christmas 2008, p.85]

It’s too bad that more wasn’t put into the PS2 version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.
  6. Though the inclusion of new features is something the series has drastically needed, online features lack depth and Become a Legend is spoiled by frustrating A.I. teammates.

Though I agree with the critics that it lacked new developments and that the new controls are misleading (especially the dribbles and skill moves), I still believe its far better than all other. free play movement is all what matters! Konami, we expect to top the chart next year so don't disappoint! Full Review »

I wasnt expecting much when I first heard about tha ps2 version of the pes 2009 because I thought it wont be given as attention as the other next-gen versions.I played the ps3 version and I was very dissapointed. The ps2 version I think is the best version. The gameplay is much better and more realistic. The menus are pretty and the become a legend is fun to play. The tranfers are almost all correct. The only problem I have is that the didnt included the champions league and still many teams mostly in the premier league dont have their licence or not included.Overall I think is a very good pes game but it could have been much better. Its funny because Konami succeeded in the hard parts which is the gameplay but failed to perfect it with the easy parts like a champions league includion and the team management. Well I have been a PRO fan since the PS1. Before that i use to play Fifa but never did (for long periods) after the 1st tme I played PRO. I seems to have improved which i thought was impossible after PRO2008 and It's gameplay never fails. Liverpool FC have been made "real" which is also gr8 news!! Full Review »
