  1. Easily the cleverest game to emerge in some time and making your way through it's intricate innards is one of the most rewarding experiences the PS2 can currently offer. A slice of gaming heaven.
  2. You may have a harder time with all the backtracking, the imprecise jumping and exploration, and the overall large-scale scope of the game. In any case...a solid performer.
  3. Whilst the graphics aren’t exactly the most impressive seen on the PlayStation 2; the gameplay makes up for the lack in looks.
  4. The highly detailed graphics convincingly portray both might and oppression with a realism that is awesome, encompassing huge caverns, fathomless pits and sudden dead ends.

Looks like a shooter, but at its heart it’s a mind-busting puzzle game that transcends its own graphical limitations and delivers an intelligent gamer’s paradise.
  6. It’s somewhat remarkable then that Project Eden not only offers an update to the genre, but also takes it to the next level with tons of challenging environmental puzzles, amazing graphics, and not one, but four lead characters.

As far as style of gameplay, think "ICO," but without the atmospherics. It's similarly puzzle-intensive, and takes the cooperative aspects of ICO's design to an entirely new level.
  8. Project Eden's superior blend of squad-based gameplay, ingenious puzzles, clever level design, and multiplayer modes creates an action-adventure game that challenges your brain more than your trigger finger.
  9. The game has an undeniably amazing world to take part in, and I never once stopped marveling at it from start to finish.
  10. Soft of resembles a four-person "Ico" – only not as pretty and much harder to get the hang of. [Jan 2002, p.132]
  11. A disappointment...A neat idea having a city where the socio-economics are broken down so structurally. With nasty goings on occurring in the recesses of the city, I honestly wanted to love this game.
  12. It's a massively built game but it seems more time was spent on creating the city than creating a driving story.

Lacks the full-on rampage of other action titles. "Halo" this is not. Combat is almost a throw-away sub-feature, and it shouldn't be.
  14. It is designed specifically for those who enjoy using their minds, and it will occasionally even frustrate the best of those players.
  15. This is a PS2 series of riddles you don't want to rely too much on a strategy guide to beat, since solving them on your own or with friends is more than half the fun.
  16. Perhaps a sequel with a cleaner look and feel? [Feb 2002, p.61]
  17. Proves to be yet another fine example shabby port of a decent PC title, that just falls apart when brought on to a console.
  18. More time has been spent on making sure Project Eden included as many smart, engaging puzzles as possible, rather than incorporating half a billion polygons and the latest in vector shading techniques.
  19. The game's pace is painfully slow, and like most puzzle games of this type, the payoff is far from satisfying. [Jan 2002, p.83]
  20. A leaden interface almost completely nullifies any enjoyment one might derive from this otherwise unique blend of action, adventure and puzzle elements.

I will admit, I didn't understand this game one bit when I bought it and it ended up sitting on my shelf for almost a year collecting dust. Last year (04) I started to play the game and after lending my time to it, got to understand what the game was about. It is my favorite game now, though I still have not beat it. I'm on level 9 out of 11. This game did it for me and all I can say is once you've given this game some time, all you will want is time for the game. lol Full Review »
