There's a constant sense of achievement and unlike many sci-fi-themed racers, it doesn't get old as it always manages to stay so exciting and fun. [Apr 2002, p.106]
  2. For fans of the films and of fast future racers there is no better alternative to "Wipeout: Fusion" on the PS2.
  3. Though it didn't include anything completely different from Episode 1:Racer a la an extra mode or a four-player option, it still stands as an awesome racer to say the least.
  4. A solid arcade racing experience which weaves dexterity, reflexes, and tension into a fairly deep arcade racing experience.

If you're a Star Wars fan, well, it's time to rejoice, because this game is handled with class and fine detail.
  6. Maybe I was looking for a better Star Wars experience like "Rogue Squadron" however I did not find it here.
  7. The addition of rewarding knockouts does add a new dimension to the gameplay, but sacrificing the difficulty of the tracks may turn off some players.
  8. While the early races start off in a fairly moderately paced action, the later tracks go by with such a speed that you'll have to remember to blink on occasion.
  9. Placing first is about as hard as finding Star Wars fan clubs on the web... Revenge is a dish best served cold - this Revenge never warms up.
  10. Don’t be mistaken into thinking this is a ridiculously deep racer, but for a pure arcade experience, you’ll find little else that offers this type of racing fun, and actually uses the oft-wasted Star Wars license in a compelling way.

Were it not for some minor draw-in and the fact that it's a bit easy, I would call it the perfect Star Wars racer. [Mar 2002, p.42]
  12. The graphics might not exactly be draw dropping but the experience is certainly entertaining.

If you were nutty about the first Star Wars Racer, you'll find alot to like in this sequel. Depending on how experienced of a gamer you are, a rental might be enough to beat this game.
  14. With all the right elements to make a stellar racing game, Star Wars Racer Revenge fails to inspire true excitement or bring something wholly different.

One of those ideal rentals because of its short term appeal. There are some strong qualities here but the lack of difficulty makes any kind of extended play rather limited.

Sure, it's repetitive, unoriginal, and not very challenging, but we have two words for you: Star Wars. [8 March 2002, p.77]

The graphics, while generally underwhelming, flow smooth and fast, and the controls match the graphics turn for turn. I wish all of the game was as polished as the best parts.
  18. What's disappointing is how little sense of immersion there is. Most of the time you feel like the pod is sitting still and the background is moving by.

High-speed, podracing action is back. This sequel admittedly doesn't do too much different outside of giving gamers more content and having aHigh-speed, podracing action is back. This sequel admittedly doesn't do too much different outside of giving gamers more content and having a new emphasis on vehicular combat (you can now K.O. you opponents by destroying their podracer), but it's hard to complain when the racing is this good.

Excellent track design and a nice selection of racers are sure to keep you coming back to tackle all of the game's challenges. Setting best times, completing tournaments with different characters, and even (locally) duking it out with a buddy are all distraction the game has to offer. While perhaps not having the most robust selection of modes, the game manages to keep you hooked thanks to just the all around solid gameplay. Plus, it's Star Wars. So that helps.

Really the biggest issue the game has is that it doesn't always offer the best challenge. Most races will fly by without giving you a fight. I found that only some of the later races in the tournament mode actually made me worry, outside of one map that was actually downright brutal.

Yet, even if it won't always test you in the traditional races, objectives like setting records are sure to give you a challenge if you need one. It's minor flaws don't detract from the fact that is an excellent racing game. One that makes great use of an exciting concept from the Star Wars universe. Any fan should check it out, be they fans of racing or the films.

Too easy, but addictive and fun. Absolutely a great racing game with many players, many tracks, and just plain great.
