This two-legged, walking metal vehicle could be adapted to a variety of road conditions and purposes: agriculture, civil engineering, and transportation. The industrial revolution continued, increasing the Trotmobile's popularity. People placed their hopes and dreams on the backs of these wonderful machines, marching toward a better life just beyond their reach. Vanilla Beans wakes up to find himself lying on a sun-drenched beach. How did he get there? And, who in the world is the girl standing above him? The girl soon introduces herself as Connie, and Vanilla begins the first busy day ofa grand adventure. He'll take Connie home, meet the other members of her band (the Garland Globetrotters), and explore the town of Nefroburg. At the end of this busy day, Vanilla relaxes in the town square where the Globetrotters are performing only to witness a gang of bandits overrunning the town! How things go from here is up to the player. Will Vanilla join the Garland Globetrotters? Or, will he join the Killer Elephant gang? The choices Vanilla makes, the Trotmobiles he builds, and the friends hekeeps are all up to gamers who take part in Steambot Chronicles. [Atlus Software] Expand

A decent and unique gaming experience that takes sand box gaming to new heights. With all the combat, customization and multiple paths you can take Vanilla on, there's really nothing to complain about.

The game lays out so much for the player to happen across and take an active part in that you're able to suspend your disbelief and feel like your actions actually mean something.
  3. It's an esoteric game that creates some of its own off-center rules while sticking to pleasant tradition. [Apr 2006, p.53]
  4. If you’re a fan of all of the different types of gameplay, mecha combat and rhythm gaming in particular, then you should give Steambot Chronicles a try.
  5. Nevertheless, the sum of these parts makes this a fun place and all the raw materials provided to put together your own unique adventure are imaginative and enjoyable - all you can really ask for in a sandbox.
  6. Full of innocent charm and fun, the Steambot Chronicles are worth a bit of frustration. [Aug 2006, p.85]
  7. Humor and unusual storytelling can't save it from stiff controls and an awkward camera.

There are still things i haven't done yet, there's so much! i really wish i could find more games with this level of customization. It is truly amazing. Expand

The characters are interesting and compelling, the interactions between them feel genuine. The game's hand-drawn look is absolutely stunning, and the designs are amazing. The game's only major flaw is it's long and frequent load times, which may break immersion and frustrate players. The game's controls can be confusing to those who do not frequently play video games or those with poor manual dexterity. The controls are satisfying when the player grasps them, and are refreshing changes to more traditional control schemes. The game's music plays a central role, and nearly all of it is enjoyable (Players might want to avoid giving Fennel his new guitar, or risk listening to a banshee's screeching for a few minutes). I can't think of anything bad to say about this game, and that's saying something. It is the best, most underrated game of the year. I'm not sure what the GameCritics reviewer was talking about when he mentioned an "awkward camera" and "stiff controls", because I think the dual-analog control scheme is inventive and intuitive, and the camera never bothered me. It was probably the best action RPG of 2006, and is, hands-down, the best RPG I've ever played. So what are you doing, just sitting there? Steambot Chronicles is only $20!!! Go play this game, now!!!
