  • Summary: Sims Have New Friends - Pets! Sims can share their lives with their new pets and add more fun to the Sims experience. From dogs, cats, caged animals and more, your Sims share new friends to experience life's precious moments. With so many different animals to choose from, there’s no telling what unpredictable experiences could occur. Create-A-Pet: Choose from dozens of dog and cat breeds or customize features for a one-of-a-kind pet. You can even modify your pet's body shape by choosing from specific colors and unique markings. Don't like the way they act? Change their personality – from smart and sweet to silly and sloppy – anyone can create their ideal animal friend in The Sims 2 Pets. Your Sims can encourage and discipline pets, training them to shake, roll over, play dead, and more. Unruly pets might dig in the yard, claw the sofa, or topple the trash. Thankfully, a little training can go a long way. Create and control digital characters over a lifetime, setting their goals in life from popularity and romance, to fortune and family– their stories are in your hands. Use special codes to share unlockable pet accessories, fur types or markings with other The Sims 2 Pets players. Take your Sims and their pet for a romp at any of the nearby park areas, or head to the Central Town Park which is a favorite of pet owners. While there, watch your pet play well with others while your Sim can meet others and socialize with fellow animal lovers. Visit the adjoining Town Center, a great gathering spot for Sims that evolves over time. Once you’ve seen the latest styles and decided on a purchase, deck your pet out in the latest clothing and accessories around. From geek to chic and cool to casual, your Sim can customize their pet’s look with one stop in the Town Center. [Electronic Arts] Collapse

  1. Ultimately, there’s something completely satisfying and entertaining in creating a real-life house in a Sims world and finding out what truly does happen when pets stop being polite and start getting real.
  2. As for the rest of the game, the structure is still the same as before, but for Sims fans, the pet aspect will add plenty of new entertainment to make this worth picking up. [Nov. 2006, p.114]

Improves upon its console predecessors in every way imaginable. The formula is definitely getting old, though, so long time fans will have limited interest. As far as newcomers go, there's plenty to see and do.
  4. The Sims 2 Pets isn't anything more than The Sims 2 on consoles with pets. It feels like an expansion pack, and if that's what you want, you won't be disappointed.
  5. If you can play the PC version, it is a much smarter investment to purchase The Sims 2: Pets as an expansion pack rather than this stand alone PS2 version.
  6. If you already have the Sims 2 on PS2, it depends on how much you want to buy the same game again, but with dogs and cats.
  7. If you can play this on a computer, do so. If you already own The Sims 2 for PS2 and are considering paying full price again to get the Pets feature, don't.

This game gets old easily unless you're a pet lover in reality. As a non-pet-lover, it's difficult to know what to do with your pets, even more difficult when it is you and your pets combined. Pet lovers will love this game though. Expand

Sims 2 Pets is a good game, with lots of fun stuff to do, however, most of the fun stuff doesn't feel like it revolves around pets. You cannot control the pets, do much in the way of shaping their personality, and, they just don't feel like a big part of the game. It would also have been nice if they could have included a few more types of pets besides cats and dogs, like birds, rodents, or perhaps horses. It could also use more locations, since there is pretty much only 1. your house, and 2. the park. Expand
