  • Summary: Inspired by the first Tomb Raider videogame, originally released in 1996, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a totally new 2006 adventure for Lara, faithfully preserving the elements which made the original Tomb Raider such a classic. Using an enhanced "Tomb Raider Legend" game engine, the graphics, technology and physics bring Lara's adventure and pursuit of a mystical artefact known only as the Scion up to today’s technology standards and offer gamers a completely new gameplay experience. The puzzles are now more in depth and incorporate environmental interaction and physics driven solutions. The level design and flow of gameplay are inspired by the original videogame making Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary a brand new experience in gaming, while still invoking the nostalgia of the first adventure in Tomb Raiding. Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a great game. When it comes to remaking a game that is so great and iconic, its often hard to live up to the reputation, but the remake dose it well. It integrates the new game play mechanics introduced with Tomb Raider: Legend such as the grappling hook and revamped targeting system, giving it more of a modern feel, while staying true to the roots of the original. The game gives of a very nostalgic vibe to those who played the first Tomb Raider when it came out such as myself, and it was fun to relive iconic moments such as the T-Rex. On the PS2 the game handles very well, the environments look stunning and the puzzles in them are great. All in all a wonderful experience and tribute to the original. Expand

A re-imagining of the original. With fewer similarities and more changes. TRA does a good job capturing the the mood and feel of the original, but it fails to surpass it. Even with updated technology. This is basically Tomb Raider: Legend, but done in style the resembles the classics. The gameplay here is deeper than the original and even Legend. Visuals, music, and re-playability are all done well. Probably one of the better of modern Tomb Raider games since the original. Expand
  3. i loved "Tomb Raider I" in those Playstation1 days. It was a huge adventure and highly addicting and i always wanted to play this amazing game again, so i was happy when i realized that there is this revival. Though the game looks much, much better now, though they haven't changed so much, and what they changed was well made, the game feels really dated and it doesn't catch anymore like in those days in the past. PLUS: quite good PS2-graphics (fire-towers f.ex.), very smooth movements by lara, beautiful areas, some great new additions. MINUS: the game and the story feel seperated. i never had the feeling, that my jumping around and solving puzzles has really something to do with the story. lack of atmosphere. very frustrating moments, cause when you make just 1 wrong jump, you have to make long ways again and again. its a good game, still! but its not this amazing experience anymore as in those days. The level design in this game is excellent. While the game is still level based, each level is large enough to fully immerse the player in its environment. The feeling of isolation also adds to the atmosphere as Lara is exploring almost all these ruins alone. There were plenty of times when I felt completely lost, which is a good thing, this allowed me to appreciate the complexity of each level and also provided a great sense of satisfaction when successfully solving a puzzle or traversing a difficult platforming segment into the next area. The story and combat was a little lacking for me and there were some very specific jumps that were all too frustrating but these issues don't take away too much from the overall package. The game places its emphasis on exploration and it handles this aspect very well. Collapse
