A vibrant, eye-popping superhero disc that has more style, wit and compelling gameplay in its first 10 minutes than most games have in their entirety.
  2. It brings the comic book to life right in front of your eyes.
  3. I really like the diverse gameplay between Venom and Spider-Man. This makes the game a whole lot more interesting because they each have their own style of play, which helps break up any repetition that might form.

The biggest setback, however, is the tragically minuscule length of the main story mode, which we leisurely knocked through in well under ten hours. With such rich story options in a beautifully designed world it's a shame that there isn't more for Spidey to do outside of the mild mini-missions and racing for medals.
  5. Even with its difficulty problems, the only really bad thing I can say about this title is that its way too short, and there’s way too little to do.

Ultimate Spider-Man has an excellent comic book style presentation and a great story, but the gameplay seems to hold it back from being one of the better titles released this holiday season.
  7. Once the contentment of seeing the impressive 'ultimate'look of the Spider-Man characters has faded and the comic book flair has become old news, it's still going to be a very bitter pill to swallow. [Dec 2005, p.118]

Great game. In my opinion this game is superior to Spider-Man 2 in terms of extra content. There are plenty of comic covers, costumes, landmark tokens, secrets tokens, races. and more to complete. The amount of content is large enough to keep you playing for a long time. Expand

While it doesn't do anything new as it borrows the open world theme of Spider-Man 2, it is still a huge blast to play, the graphical style will remind you of a comic book, there are tons of bosses to fight, and they corrected a mistake from Spider-Man 2 by giving the ability for crimes to go on around you instead of you having to trigger them by talking to a citizen, and the fact that you play as Spider-Man and Venom during the main missions is cool, my only complaints are that the voice acting isn't all that great, and the Venom survival mode is boring, those flaws aside if you liked Spider-Man 2 you'll love this. Best spiderman game ever! I wish they kept the pizza delivery missions though.

Arguably one of the best superhero games to hit the PS2 -- alongside Spider-Man 2. Pros: Fantastic visuals, control, and audio; excellent story that perfectly follows along the comic book series; spectacular cutscenes; funny dialog. Cons: Lacks a lot of the variety in Spider-Man 2; some missions involve lots of web-slinging, which will feel tedious at some point. Expand

This is a really great Spiderman game, the action is in full force, theres a really awesome hub world to play around in, where you can just swing around town like spider man or venom. Two different story modes, one with spider man, and one with venom, awesome graphics, and fun and challenging gameplay. including some well designed missions, this is one Spider man game fans wont want to miss. Also reccommended for action fans as well. Expand
