  • Summary: Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2009 is all about nonstop danger and fast action - this is a thrilling hunting experience for both hunting enthusiasts and first-person action fans. The stats speak for themselves: the game has 25 of the world’s most dangerous animals, including lions, grizzly bears, Cape buffalo, rhino, jaguars and more in 9 exotic, rugged locations like the South American jungle, Alaskan wilderness, and the Russian tundra. To top it off, ferocious beasts aren't the only way you can meet your maker - you must survive plane crashes and boat down treacherous rivers, as well as avoid avalanches, stampedes, and piranha-infested waters. You play as Flint Abrahams, a seasoned big game hunter on a quest to hunt the world's deadliest trophies. Equipped with Cabela's gear, the most respected outdoor recreation brand in the world, one would think the odds are on your side. But no one has even seen animals this fierce - they will charge you if you miss your shot, then you will be forced to fight them via melee defense. But pay attention, nearby animals may join the attack, which means dire consequences for those without the requisite combination of brawn and pinpoint shooting ability. [Activision] Expand

While this game has some fun novelty appeal, it has very little lasting appeal and is definitely a better rental than purchase.
  2. Best leave this one out in the wilderness. [Mar 2009, p.75]
  3. Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2009 is a weak game from start to finish, with very few redeeming qualities. The poor gameplay even has the ability to leave you frustrated and tempted to turn your console off. If you’re a big hunter, or enjoyed the past offerings from Cabela’s and Activision, then you might consider trying it. CDH 2009 is a rental at best.
  4. The mission selection is definitely a bit different from previous games, and having the various encounters with potentially dangerous prey is a great idea, but the actual execution feels pretty lackluster here.
  5. By any reasonable criteria, this is a bag of balls. [Jan 2009, p.102]
  6. The ugliest game on PS3 can be entertaining, but it's mostly a mess. [Feb 2009, p.78]

As an avid hunter I would expect something far better than this for the money. I purchased this game for my PS3 and played it for about an hour and a half hoping that the gameplay would somehow get better. To my dissapointment it did not, as a matter of fact this is by far the worst game I have played in a long time. The graphics could be compared to the ATARI for god sakes! and what were the developers thinking? Hunting animals in this game seems to be the last thing anyone thought to add when this was developed. This game is a JOKE! Please nobody else waste your hard earned money on this terrible game and if you do call me so that I can say "I told you so"! Expand

This is an awful game. I really cant say how bad it is. I had a lot of fun with some of the Cabela's games on the PS2, however their new offering here is just plain sloppy. The story is ridiculous as well and at the moment, I'm at a stage where you have to cross a log bridge, I cant for the life of me figure out how to cross it without falling off. Seems like a bug in what is a vital part of the mission. Don't buy it, I'm returning my copy to the store tomorrow. Expand
