Oct 20, 201091And with its well-directed pacing, the game ends exactly when it needs to, leaving you satisfied and wistfully yearning for more.
-
Oct 28, 201078Elegant, simple and fun. Costume Quest is a fairly simple adventure that works well as a digital download.
-
Dec 22, 201076Costume Quest works better when the emphasis is on action. The "collect all candy to unlock next world" variation may get a little tired by the end of the game, but it's a lot of fun to collect new costumes (and discover their abilities).
-
Jan 4, 201183All-in-all Double Fine's Costume Quest is rather straightforward on paper, but it's the excellence of the game's design that brings it to life and gives the world around you character.
-
Oct 25, 201080By effectively clinging on to the Halloween aesthetic from beginning to end, Costume Quest evokes the often forgotten nostalgia of childhood. It manages to create a fantastical world without resorting to high fantasy. As something that both kids and adults can relate to, Costume Quest is a heartfelt reminder that with the right viewpoint, everything can be awesome.
-
Oct 25, 201070The result is a game that may not leave you full, but it'll taste pretty sweet while it lasts.
-
Oct 21, 201080It's another delightful look into the minds of children; a window into their vivid imaginations, and the wonderful places their ideas and dreams can take them – and you.
-
Jan 15, 201160Despite all the the good premises, this last game from Tim Schafer proves to be a small project with short and repetitive gameplay.
-
Jan 12, 201180With great design and lots of humor, Double Fine's latest game is perfect for Halloween.
-
Oct 22, 201083Double Fine recently made the decision to break up their team into small groups, allowing them to release a number of smaller titles, rather than one big game every few years. Costume Quest is the first of these sort of games, and if the quality is any indication, they have made an excellent decision. I can't wait to see what's next.
-
Oct 20, 201060Costume Quest is cute and funny, so it may look like a good game for kids. Let me assure you: After completing the adventure (which took me about five hours), I can't recommend Costume Quest to gamers of any age.
-
Oct 27, 201060Costume Quest makes it clear that Double Fine may not be used to developing games for the little ones : the humor and gameplay seem shy. It dares, but not too much. If you have a 10 years old kid wandering next to your game console, Costume Quest would probably be a better fit for him than GTA IV. That said, when I was that young, I was playing Ultima II.
-
Oct 20, 201090Overall, the result is an efficient, memorable, and entertaining DLC release that's easily worth the $15 budget price.
-
Jan 4, 201185Costume Quest is a fun, well-presented Halloween tale well worth the purchase.
-
Jan 5, 201170Costume Quest is sweet and addictive like the sugary goodness the game is about, but sells itself short in terms of gameplay.
-
Dec 22, 201085The finished game is both fun to play, and wonderfully representative of a time of innocence and adventure. Combined with Double Fine's development sensibilities, it's the perfect combination for success.
-
Oct 20, 201070A few fundamental problems sour a game that exudes delightful personality.
-
Oct 22, 201080If Costume Quest was a full-retail game, we'd recommend it with a few caveats. But seeing as its fifteen bucks, fans of RPGs/Halloween/Neglecting their children should pick it up without hesitation.
-
Oct 27, 201091So is Costume Quest worth picking up, even if you're not a huge RPG fan? Absolutely. It's great as both an entry point for players that don't have a lot of experience in the genre, and it also serves up a lot of fan for people that aren't really RPG fans to begin with.
-
Oct 20, 201080This is an easy game to lose yourself in for as long as it lasts, and, by the end of the adventure, all I could think to myself was how much I'd like to see these characters again come next All Hallows' Eve.
-
Oct 20, 201075It's a great way to relive the nostalgia of your trick or treating days, so you should give it a try, especially if there's a price drop.
-
Jan 2, 201177Never has a game dealt with the subject of Halloween so charmingly. What ultimately lets Costume Quest down is not its simplicity but its decision to barely skim the surface of its own premise. The game can be bought, downloaded and completed in an afternoon.
-
Oct 22, 201060Another charmingly scripted adventure with bright cheery graphics, a loveable cast and… tedious combat and frustrating exploration.
-
Jan 13, 201180Good script and visual style makes up for the lack of variety in Costume Quest and the adorable characters and villains are intriguing enough to appeal players into clearing the game. Turns based encounters are dull and repetitive although you can customize your characters through costumes and stamps, but they are just the main issue of the game. Double Fine released an enjoyable game for a cheap price and we hope for a sequel, perhaps next Halloween or even earlier.
-
Dec 22, 201080With a Christmas download already set for December release, it is a happy little title, simple enough for the kids but with a nostalgic vibe and enough humour to draw in those a bit older.
-
Dec 25, 201070While Costume Quest is an utterly charming RPG...it's a rather simplistic affair that offers very little challenge. [Issue#199, p.103]
-
Dec 25, 201080Costume Quest glows with creepy artistic charm. [Issue#51, p.118]

Jan 12, 201180One of the biggest surprises this year is Costume Quest. It's a pretty weird Role Playing Game with a unique setting and gameplay, that will be a bit repetitive. Anyway, THQ delivers with Costume Quest a great tilte on the PlayStation Network that has a few fantastic elements.
-
Dec 22, 201077But this hardly matters, because this is time well spent, being gently humoured and greatly entertained. Like a candy-induced sugar rush, it's short but sweet, and liable to induce lots of hysterical giggling.
