  • Summary: The FIFA Soccer 08 next-gen gameplay engine, built to maximize the power of Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, delivers animations and ball control that is so responsive you feel like you are actually on the pitch. Players in FIFA Soccer 08 now benefit from A.I. so smart, it features a 35-point decision engine which enables players to process multiple decisions and reactions in real-time. The A.I.'s dynamic ‘Threat Map’ system captures the excitement and realism of soccer. Players are now aware of their surroundings, reacting authentically to threats and opportunities to make intelligent football decisions. A true next-generation ball-striking engine calculates shot success by combining an almost infinite number of different contexts, including ball spin, pressure from defenders, player attributes, and even air pressure to recreate the drama and unpredictable nature of shooting. A new play mode called Be A Pro locks you in the role of a single player and challenges you to master the same disciplines as a real soccer player—from positioning and tackling to reading the field and passing. FIFA Soccer 08 introduces skill moves with a true next-generation organic 'building-block' system enabling you to combine tricks and skill moves together to recreate signature moves from the real-world superstars or define your own style of play. Animations can be interrupted at any time to transition into a new move, enabling you to read and respond to the defence, just like real life. Master the skills to break down the defence, elude your marker and lead your team to victory. Represent your club online against your rivals throughout the season in the F.A. Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division. When they play, you play. [Electronic Arts] Expand

  1. FIFA is now the complete package; it combines all the licensing you could want along with graphics slicker than a Gerrard through ball and adds a match engine with more play-styles than Rafa Benitez has rotation options.
  2. Overall, FIFA 08 is a wonderful soccer game that improves on its predecessor in almost every way. It looks great, plays great, and is back on the right track for taking the crown back from the Winning Eleven series.
  3. The first FIFA for the PS3 is an impressive debut, and while it can be difficult at times, it's a polished and highly playable game.

FIFA 08 is without a doubt the most realistic FIFA title yet, but only just. There have been a few gameplay refinements and the new modes are decent. It's disappointing Australians will miss out on the 5 vs 5 be a pro online feature as that is one of the drawcards for FIFA 08.

I've never liked FIFA but, this is a really good football game. I find it tedious playing against high level cpu teams but online it is great. Be a Pro is good fun - it will be interesting to see how it plays online once the upgrade is released. Definitely worth the investment until PES 2008 comes out. Better than PES 6. Expand

In the battle between PES and Fifa in recent years, PES has been widely accepted to be better, and having played older titles such as fifa 05, i was inclined to agree, but fifa 08s gameplay has become a lot more fluid and easy to handle. The ingame commentary is repetitive, and it appears to wildly shift difficulty settings, as in one game i scored 11 times, and in the following game we find a 0-0 draw. Still the online gaming is fairly well done and it is a fairly good football title. Expand

The enduring question for the football gaming fan has always been..."is FIFA any better than PES2008?". While PES08 is clearly underwhelming, the answer to the previous question is still a resounding "NO" having purchased both. In fact, I traded FIFA in after I got both because FIFA was such garbage. CPU players on FIFA couldn't finish if their little electronic lives depended on it. The main challenge for me on FIFA on 'world-class' difficulty was getting the ball off the CPU opponent when my defender was literally glued to the opponent (with me watching bemused as the two players ballroom dance together along the edge of my box from one corner to another - pathetically unrealistic). Also, can EA please let me use the D-pad rather than the joystick? Expand
