  • Summary: Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is inspired by the feature film, which brings the enduringly popular DC Comics super hero to the big screen for the first time and which stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role as Hal Jordan, the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps. In the videogame players will utilize over a dozen constructs and take flight across the deepest parts of the Universe to restore intergalactic order by wielding the ultimate weapon: the Green Lantern power ring. 1. It may not be a truly heroic experience, but Manhunters and the Green Lantern movie would make for a fine weekend double feature. [Sept 2011, p.85]

Technically it's not state of the art, and it's killing every bit of motivation you could have collected along the way: Killing, traveling, killing, travelling in tube levels is not what one expects from a franchise.

A game with restricted and simple gameplay that could have been a decent game.

Most games adapted from famous comic franchises with super heroes are crap. Some very few ones are brilliant. Green Lantern is neither. It's linear, repetitive and it lacks ambition and ideas, ending up below your average action game, but the variety of weapons and overall combat gameplay are still satisfying. They offer a decent way to vent, if only for short bursts of play, either by oneself or with a friend.

Good fun game! But Please develop a better game Double Helix, what you did with Silent Hill Homecoming was ok, GI Joe was bad, and I looked forward to Front Mission Evolved but still it was messed up. Go back to your roots when you developed Homecoming which is the best game that you guys made. Expand
  2. This game is pretty cool. I was wanting on the reviews before I bought the game however there are still no reviews as of this writing. So I said what the hell and bought the game anyway. I actually like it! The graphics are awesome, the combat is fun. You get to level up and buy upgrades. It's a hack-n-slash God Of War-type of game. It offers two player non-splitscreen co-op. All in all it's a good game. I don't know what the "official" scores will be yet, but if this game gets bad reviews then I will lose faith in the entire video game rating industy. Expand
  3. This is a really fun game! I must admit that I didn't play it as long on PS3 as I did on the 360, because I'm and achievement junkie and not a trophy person, but I wanted to see what the differences were. There weren't that many. I'm not a gigantic GL fan, but this game is fun for anyone. The constructs (your battle tools) are clever, and the variety is nice...always using the same two things to kill off the enemies can get dull.
Is it worth $59.99? Well I played it through twice, and it's about 8 hours (the first time anyway), I say it was worth the big price for me. If I hadn't wanted to play it a second time, I may have been a little disappointed in that price point.
All in all, I give it an A.

  4. As a Green Lantern comic fan, I was hoping this game would be... passable. We all know why I say 'passable'... most videogame/movie tie-ins are not very good as a rule.

So when no reviews were popping up, I was saying 'uh-oh'... just like the rest of you. However, my impulsive nature, combined with some 'trade-in' credits pushed me over the edge, so I picked it up.

I can safely say that as a Green Lantern fan, and as a fan of God of War AND Panzer Dragoon-esque games, Rise of the Manhunters is a lot of fun.

Starting off on Oa with some rudimentary constructs, you will move through the story (which seems to come after the movie) and unlock new constructs, for even more playful ways to smash your enemies.

It's not going to win any awards for originality, since it cribs so heavily from other games, but I can safely say that after playing it for around 3 hours, I let out a sigh of relief at not wasting my money.
