Places the emphasis back on racing over contrived storylines - and leaves its peers eating its dust in the process. [Aug 2014, p.88]

Grid Autosport is a fine racing game with enjoyable driving experience, a lot of variety in types of (race) cars and an extensive online multiplayer mode. We can forgive the fact that the game doesn't look good in every respect: it has no negative influence on the experience of racing. By far the most impressive thing about the game is the AI, that asks everything of you to win races, again and again.

Grid Autosport promised proper motor racing, and that’s exactly what it delivers (and plenty of it, to boot). It falls a bit short in the visual stakes compared to the hotter, new generation completion, but few developers get pack racing right like Grid Autosport does. The spirit of the classic TOCA games is finally back.

Overall, Autosport does things well enough and offers a decent compromise of customization versus accessibility without going off the deep end for serious gearheads the way Gran Turismo does.

Even with some customisation offered in the realms of online, the whole package still feels like a selection of disparate parts with no real core holding it all together.

GRID Autosport is a really good racing game, delivering terrific sensations, but it suffers poor AI, technical issues on PS3 and 360 (the PC version is MUCH better visually) and a lack of new content.

They wanted to excel in everything and ended up excelling in nothing. The series is eating its own tailpipe and needs to be put down - ideally to make room for TOCA. [Issue#244]

While I find the lack of a reasonable cockpit view extremely disappointing, this is the best racing game that has come out since the originalWhile I find the lack of a reasonable cockpit view extremely disappointing, this is the best racing game that has come out since the original GRID. I also miss being able to move up into managing my own racing team but I can live without it. The physics feel great the AI is great, if a little too aggressive (that's what flashbacks are for). One of my favorite features and one of the big ones that really sets this game apart from the original is the implementation of a "full race weekend" with practice, qualifying and then 1 or 2 races depending on the class (very similar to what you find in codemasters recent F1 games). However, if you are not in to all the preparation you can still just go straight to the race. The little details of the tracks are also very cool, there are little touches like flocks of birds, helicopters and maintenance workers scattered throughout all of the tracks, these things also change depending on whether you are in practice or the mail event and it really brings some life into the game.

Again, I can't stress enough how disappointing the lack of modeled cockpits is, if it wasn't for that this game would be an easy 10/10. As it is I have to drop the game a point and a half for the omission and probably another half a point for the career mode not being as fleshed out as it could be (although still miles ahead of other non codemasters games).

I'm going to start with the bad news first..
As an avid racing fan, on normal settings, this game is very hard. Crazy AI and far more of an emphasis on SIM than Arcade racing, I found myself going to an easy setting just to get into the game. It's not a visual treat either (unusual for Codemasters) but holds its own.
Good news.. The gameplay is wonderfully challenging and reminds me of the first Grid (the best of the series) far more than the mess that Grid 2 was. The mixture of racing styles is brilliant and a great move, keeping the game fresh. I would have liked a fresh take on the first Grid mechanics but this is an amazing racing game nevertheless, and next to Dirt series and GT 5, the best racing game on the PS3. I can't wait to see what Codemasters have up their sleeves for next gen as they are truly the masters of racing devs. Well done.
