  1. Places the emphasis back on racing over contrived storylines - and leaves its peers eating its dust in the process. [Aug 2014, p.88]

Grid Autosport is a fine racing game with enjoyable driving experience, a lot of variety in types of (race) cars and an extensive online multiplayer mode. We can forgive the fact that the game doesn't look good in every respect: it has no negative influence on the experience of racing. By far the most impressive thing about the game is the AI, that asks everything of you to win races, again and again.

Grid Autosport promised proper motor racing, and that’s exactly what it delivers (and plenty of it, to boot). It falls a bit short in the visual stakes compared to the hotter, new generation completion, but few developers get pack racing right like Grid Autosport does. The spirit of the classic TOCA games is finally back.

Overall, Autosport does things well enough and offers a decent compromise of customization versus accessibility without going off the deep end for serious gearheads the way Gran Turismo does.

Even with some customisation offered in the realms of online, the whole package still feels like a selection of disparate parts with no real core holding it all together.

GRID Autosport is a really good racing game, delivering terrific sensations, but it suffers poor AI, technical issues on PS3 and 360 (the PC version is MUCH better visually) and a lack of new content.

They wanted to excel in everything and ended up excelling in nothing. The series is eating its own tailpipe and needs to be put down - ideally to make room for TOCA. [Issue#244]

Best racing game in a long time; physics, AI, sounds, graphics, SFX and track atmosphere are all top notch. If you are looking for a careless arcade cruiser then buy NFS, but if you are looking for the best racing experience on PS3/ 360 then don't doubt any longer and pick up this game! Expand

Love the game! Great car handling, aggressive AI, practise and qualifying sessions, race radio, great circuits, no-nonsense storyline and menu system. Great that player can choose race disciplines and career progression. Overall very good realism and challenge and the best racing experience I've had to-date! Expand

While I find the lack of a reasonable cockpit view extremely disappointing, this is the best racing game that has come out since the original GRID. I also miss being able to move up into managing my own racing team but I can live without it. The physics feel great the AI is great, if a little too aggressive (that's what flashbacks are for). One of my favorite features and one of the big ones that really sets this game apart from the original is the implementation of a "full race weekend" with practice, qualifying and then 1 or 2 races depending on the class (very similar to what you find in codemasters recent F1 games). However, if you are not in to all the preparation you can still just go straight to the race. The little details of the tracks are also very cool, there are little touches like flocks of birds, helicopters and maintenance workers scattered throughout all of the tracks, these things also change depending on whether you are in practice or the mail event and it really brings some life into the game.

Again, I can't stress enough how disappointing the lack of modeled cockpits is, if it wasn't for that this game would be an easy 10/10. As it is I have to drop the game a point and a half for the omission and probably another half a point for the career mode not being as fleshed out as it could be (although still miles ahead of other non codemasters games).

It's not actually that bad. Coming from a sim racers perspective (iRacing, Assetto Corsa, rFactor) it's definitely playable. Whilst it isn't a sim, I can happily sit down & play for a few hours just to take a break from the serious games. I was able to jump right in & race hard and fast from the get-go, with the AI set to Hard difficulty. (With only the HUD on, if you want to count that as an assist) After completing the first 2 introduction races I hopped into the Open-Wheel career path and completed my first season there, it was a lot of fun, just driving different tracks and cars (Formula 3) to what I was normally used to. However, the cockpit view is horrible. Everything is blurred out so you can't see the steering wheel or mirrors. This is by far the games' biggest issue that could have been EASILY fixed. Codemasters, please do tell me what the point is of having a cockpit with blurred mirrors? It's almost impossible to enjoy the game with no HUD on as you have no way to tell what position you're in or how many laps to go, or when to change gears, (I go by sound, but not being able to see my engines RPM or shift lights is utterly ridiculous). This next section I'll be going through a few positives & negatives about the game as I know people don't want to read on and on and on.

    - The cameras each have their own unique feel to them but the roll-bar cam is quite nice with just the right amount of FOV set that allows you to see both what's in front and what's next to you, I highly recommend you use this and not the 3rd person camera to get the most out of GRID Autosport.

    - Menu navigation is simplistic.

    - The music can get repetitive, but its surprisingly bearable, or you can disable it entirely in the options menu.

    - Physics for a simcade aren't too bad although some cars feel like they need a bit of work.

    - Career mode is pretty good, with a wide variety of disciplines.

    - The whole teammate, team stuff doesn't have enough depth. Why on earth should I care if my team-mate does well? I'm only there for my self, not the team.

    - AI pace can be inconsistent from track-to track.

It's not a bad game for a casual racing fan or a hardcore sim racing enthusiast, cockpit view needs to be patched asap though.

I try, but this is not a game for regular arcade race gamers like me. It's a shame, because the graphics are ok, and the difficulty scheme is very interesting.... Expand
