The Jak and Daxter Collection is probably going to be one of the easiest releases for me to recommend to everyone this year; definitely a great addition to any PS3 library.

Though some aspects of the games are dated now, the Jak games stand up as epic adventures. [Mar 2012, p.94]

If you missed any one of the original three Jak and Daxter titles, 40 bucks is more than worth getting to play these classics in HD. However, if you are a longtime fan, only pick this collection up if you have 40 dollars burning a hole in your pocket. It's fun, it's pretty, and it reminded me why Jak and Daxter was an awesome series, but that's all I can say for it.

  1. The Jak and Daxter trilogy has been heralded as one of the best set of games for the Playstation 2. Now all three are available for the PS3 and as a huge fan of the original series the question comes up: how does nostalgia stack up with reality? Pretty well. The games are as they were –superb. Between the comedic foil of Daxter, the beautiful lush worlds, and a bevy of supporting and entertaining characters; the games focuses on storytelling and of course action platforming. The games have something for nostalgia players like me and for new comers that unfortunately missed out on the originals. That being said, the games are not without their faults. The first is aging. A decade ago J&D where at the cutting edge of what the PS2 could be pushed to, much like the Uncharted trilogy is today. However, in that time graphics have definitely improved. Even with the 720 port the first game at least definitely shows its age. This isn’t a deal breaker – just something to be aware of. The second problem is gaming convention – in the last 10 years, games have evolved – and J&D shows its age in this respect. The camera angles are damn difficult to properly control, the vehicles have the control of an overloaded bus, and the double jump can be quite laggy at times. These problems were present in the original games but what was almost unnoticeable ten years ago now has become more irritating. Overall, however, this game is absolutely superb. For anyone new to the series I’d recommend picking the trilogy up for both the enjoyment and price, just be aware of a few minor difficulties. For any fans of the original series this game is an absolute must have. Daxter is the same comedic genius we remember him to be, and there is something heartening about seeing the saving screen contain an image of the PS2 memory card. These games are phenomenal and for both new and returning players alike the games are definitely worth a play through. Expand

  2. Three games that I consider to be the last remaining examples of a genre that is practically lost today. Nowadays the market is filled with shooters and games left unfinished so that DLC could be made. Anyways these games hold up extremely well today, back when devs cared about making great story driven games and great realized characters; putting gameplay in first instead of graphics. All three have great gameplay, graphics that still look great(except jak 1 which looks pretty dated) and fun & interesting storylines. The first Jak is a lighthearted platformer, JakII is an open world with a more mature tone and Jak 3 is II but upgraded and with the addition of vehicles and another city. All three are great games and this collection deserves a purchase. Expand

  3. Highly overrated. I did not play these games, back in the day, and decided to give them a chance (mostly because of the Naughty Dog pedigree involved - I'm a huge Uncharted fan and thought it would be nice to give these games a try). I must say I was fairly disapointed and really believe the Jak collection only got a HD revamp because of Uncharted's relevance. The games are Ok, but are far, far from being classics. I'm sorry I fell in the hype-trap and glad that, at least, this is not sold for the full retail price. These games are beautiful and occasionaly fun, but really dull. The Ratchet/Clank duo is a way better franchise. Expand
