  • Summary: [Playstation Network] The latest game from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi, NOBY NOBY BOY lets players expand their imaginations as they stretch a creature named BOY to incredible lengths across the playground-like planets of the solar system. Offering a unique play experience from one of the video game industry's most creative minds, NOBY NOBY BOY gives players complete freedom to create gameplay suited to their tastes. As BOY, players can eat and spit out nearly everything they encounter in the game, from people and animals to trees and buildings, helping them to gain length as they stretch their elongated body. Players can control BOY’s front and back ends using the Playstation 3 controller's two analog sticks, allowing for detailed movements such as tying themselves into knots or threading BOY through holes in the environment. NOBY NOBY BOY allows players to record video footage as they play and upload it directly to YouTube for easy viewing. Delivering a new and innovate approach to online gaming, NOBY NOBY BOY lets players collaborate to unlock new game stages. As players stretch BOY in their individual play sessions, the lengths to which they grow are uploaded to a persistent character known as GIRL, who grows at the same rate as the combined length of all the players in the world. GIRL starts at Earth and expands through the solar system as more games are played and BOYs from all players continue to grow. When GIRL reaches a new milestone in the solar system, these areas are unlocked as playable stages in the game for everyone around the world. [Namco Bandai Games] Expand

  1. By some combination of cunning and magic, it makes you a child again. It helps you rediscover the bottomless fascination and joy you had in discovering the properties of string, or sand, or animals, or Newtonian physics for the very first time. It makes you free to play, and happy to make your own entertainment, for hours on end.

Aside from being in a league of its own, Noby Noby Boy is so charming it can transform you from a respectable adult to a child in minutes. Don’t resist the urge – rediscover why you decided to play games in the first place.
  3. Not bad for 3 quid 19, but don't expect hours of entertainment. [May 2009, p.76]
  4. Even though Noby Noby Boy's shallow antics aren't fun or interesting enough to justify the lack of actual goals or structure, there's just too much new and quirky stuff here to not be deserving of its incredibly meager $5 asking price.

Surprisingly addictive for a game with so little structure, but that's part of it's charm. Instead of leading you around on a leash, you can choose to do whatever you want in a small but wacky world with a lot going on. I felt I got well over $5 worth of entertainment several times over, and my only real complaint(s) are the small size of areas and the motion controlled camera. Expand

This is the sort of game that doesn't really fit anywhere on a review scale. Some people may find something truly compelling and entertaining about this title. It's extremely simple at it's core, offering strangely addictive physics based mechanics and the prospect of new planets for those willing to contribute to GIRL's growth. I gave it an 8 even though it would be better without a score at all because it's $5, quite fun, and well worth the purchase if you are into quirky and simplistic games. Definitely a must try for fans of Katamari Damacy. Expand

A delightful little sandbox toy of a game. When i found Katamari Damacy's Prince prancing about. I promptly ate him and pooped him off the edge of the map. That story alone is a testament to how bizarre and shamelessly hilarious this game could be. The environment is amazingly lush with activity with much of it reacting to your presence, which then makes for humorous antics. My only disappointment would be the faulty and very much so temperamental camera. Despite its lack of a unifying plot, the $5 price tag makes up for any shortfall. It's worth buying for the experience. Expand
  4. A good game because it challenges the notions of what gaming can be but an even better toy - a goalless playground intended for children but that is just as entertaining for adults. It's all at once wacky, cute, crude (there is farting), and of course fun. Getting the hang of the controls is tricky at first but in no time you'll be feeding Girl your length to help her reach Uranus. Expand
