Honestly if not for some minor complaints Red Faction Armageddon would be a damn near perfect game. As it is, this is a strong contender for best game of the year for its fantastic mix of intense action, fun character customization that changes how you play the game, great graphics and all around fantastic gameplay experience. Even the minor flaws are easily ignored and most will likely not even notice them, as wrapped up in the game as they will be.

Volition did a great job creating a variety of missions -- Darius' battles between the Cultists and aliens intertwine extremely well, and don't overlap each other or feel too overwhelming.

Red Faction Armageddon isn't the best third person shooter game, but if you enjoy blowing things up, then this is the game for you.

Red Faction: Armageddon delivers on its promises, even with the uneven level design, soap-opera storyline and bizarre objective choices. The sheer fun to be had with the game's fascinating weaponry and visually stunning scenes of destruction is what makes the series so popular to begin with, and in this respect it is worth every penny.

Leaving the open-world and adopting a more confined, linear environment, Volition's newest entry in the popular franchise promises a far more engaging story and less distractions without compromising what the Illinois-based developer has been building upon. The result is quite different...but pleasantly interesting.

Red Faction: Armageddon is a decent game, but doesn't quite bowl you over. It is however, a game with an engine that shows off some awesome destructive abilities.

That inherent, unapologetic, child-like fun is still present in Armageddon.

It is an enjoyable 6 – 8 hour romp that, while imperfect, has shining moments. The Geo-Mod 2.0 engine provides the tools for destruction, but the level design elevates beyond being a gimmick.

The newest addition to the Red Faction saga is a fast-paced summer shooter. It doesn't really require any brain activity and the bright colours, huge packs of alien enemies and destructible environments ensure, that this game is a perfect tool for venting pressure. [June 2011]

In conclusion Red Faction: Armageddon gives fans of this series what they want... destruction plus mayhem and it works on so many levels. The beauty of the destruction is that it is not put in as an afterthought but rather, part of the gameplay which must be used in conjunction with your strategies.

Catapulting aliens by force of gravity through the air is one of the most entertaining things absout this action-packed shooter. The other is watching buildings topple and crash to the ground, destroyed by powerful and original weapons. The level design may be partially flawed, the story may seem bland, but what Red Faction: Armageddon excels in is it's fun and rewarding combat.

Red Faction: Armageddon can be a really fun game. The online and extra modes may not be all that great, and the repetitive nature of the fighting doesn't do the title any favors, but there is still a solid game here. Smashing and rebuilding stuff is great fun, and a lot of times it can make up for some of the flaws. Red Faction: Armageddon is clearly a game for fans of the series, and/or someone looking for a good, solid action game. It is the best thing since sliced bread? Nah. But it does bring a lot to the table and may or my not be a worth edition to your collection, depending on your tastes.

Red Faction: Armageddon has weak points and highligts. The story isn't that great, the dungeon-crawling experience isn't that cool and in fights chaos reigns. On the other hand, it's damn fun to kick some alien ass and destroy everything you want.

Overall Red Faction: Armageddon is a special and fun game with a good dose of action within a third-person perspective.

You can tell a lot of effort has been put into the GeoMod technology, and making sure everything is as polished as it can be. This has to be one of the most technically sound releases we've played in a long while, and it's draw backs mainly come from the content itself, and not the design.

Red Faction: Armageddon both satisfies and disappoints, depending on your camp. The single-player campaign may feel too restrictive for some because of the lack of open-world areas to play with, but the weaponry and mass destruction you can inflict still make the somewhat-lengthy experience fun. While co-op multiplayer is great, the lack of competitive modes will turn off those who have come to expect a more refined multiplayer experience. Still, the game is enjoyable enough that fans will not be terribly disappointed in the final product, especially those who prefer single-player over multiplayer games.

Although too linear and unrelated with the previous Red Faction: Guerrilla Games, it is a fun, intense and frantic game which is sometimes espectacular, with a great physics engine that allows dynamical destruction of the environments, although the game not always makes the most of it.

The versatile magnet gun marries beautifully with the series' signature destructibility to make Red Faction: Armageddon an exciting and explosive shooter.

Loads of fun. There's a great deal of ingenuity here, and the power we feel wandering about is almost unparalleled in third-person shooters. The package really is quite solid and well worth a look…provided you're done playing the elite AAA titles out there.

A straight Third Person Shooter, maybe a little bit too linear, but with a heartbreaking pace. An Old School action game, vivid enough to entertain.
  22. 76
This is a well-polished ten-hour campaign, but it loses all of the things that made Guerrilla special in favor of a generic action experience. Also, there's no competitive multiplayer.

Go underground and shoot some aliens in Red Faction Armageddon. The gameplay has gone back to the roots but it is lineair and the singleplayer is a bit short. The multiplayer modes are cool, but you won't play them for a long time. Red Faction: Armageddon is a fine game, but there are a lot of things that could have been a lot better.

If you've never played a Red Faction game you will have a lot of fun with this one, but fans of the series may be a little put off with the changes to multiplayer however, the campaign should be enough to satisfy all your destructive needs.

All said, I still favor the formula of the original Red Faction over the more recent releases – but there is no denying that there is immense enjoyment to be had in in destruction, and Volition has never disappointed in this aspect. Armageddon may lack the storyline components of the prior releases, but it more than makes up for it in terms of overall action and gameplay ingenuity – and while I may never be able to recapture the experience of the original Red Faction, I can see many more hours of magnet gun follies in my future.
  26. 75
Armageddon takes destructible environments and turns it into a weapon, perfect for those who like massive devastation. While the single-player campaign is a bit bland and linear, the action is still top notch.

Armageddon is an unimaginative shooter, showing more creativity in Darius' tribal tattoos than in any of its combat scenarios. If you're looking for a memorable Red Faction experience, you're better off playing Guerrilla again.
  28. Armageddon is by no means a bad game, it's just a completely different one to what series fans will expect, or possibly want. Unfortunately, in returning to its underground roots, Volition has forgotten to capitalise on what their series does best: geo-modding the crap out of everything in sight - minimum restrictions. Red Faction: Armageddon is "digital playground" with some amazing toys, like the Magnet Gun and the Nano Forge abilities. There is no "open world" gameplay this time around, but the new, linear environments make this 10-hour long Campaign much more interesting. On the downside, there is no competitive Multiplayer and the survival-like mode, called "Infestation", won't provide enough online hours.

With a lot of help from the Magnet Gun, Red Faction: Armageddon has enough of that "summer blockbuster" feel to make you forget about Violations last outing.

It's a bold move to change the destructive sand box gameplay of Guerrilla with this linear and claustrophobic experience, but Volition does a really good job. Just don't expect it to be Red Faction Guerrilla 2.

Simply put, Armageddon doesn't deliver the same spectacular, over the top entertainment of its predecessor. The free roaming, completely stripped from this sequel, was clearly and important piece of the puzzle. As a simple third person shooter, the game doesn't work that well anymore, and you'll surely find much better products in the same genre.

A back-step for the series. Not terrible by any means, Armageddon is nevertheless a huge disappointment.
  34. 70
In the end it seems odd, and a little disappointing that Volition chose not to include any directly competitive multiplayer mode, especially after the unique flair of the one in Guerrilla. However, the modes available do provide plenty of fun and gameplay, making Armageddon well worth playing.

Armageddon's not bad, it's just plain. The game feels like Volition started from scratch, but accidentally threw out too much of what made the last game great.
  36. 70
The destruction is nice as expected, but the level design is simply a bit boring.

It still is, at its heart, a foundation of derivative shooter tropes dressed up with Red Faction's (fantastic) physics and weapons. It's a fun game and a worthwhile purchase if you're not hoping for more of Guerilla and you're not turned off by linearity.

Despite its forgettable story and pacing issues with the campaign, Red Faction: Armageddon is good fun for letting out your inner destructive child.
  39. Bloated, Armageddon loses its luster...For our money, Armageddon needn't linger but rather leap at us with tooth and claw, tear, and then depart. [July 2011, p.78]

A competent shooter which nonetheless feels like a squandered opportunity and a misstep for its franchise; decent fun for a few hours, but destined to be forgotten within minutes of its end credits scrolling by.

Although Red Faction: Armageddon offers one of the coolest weapons of the year, a good weapon mechanic and destructible environments, the game falls a bit flat with an uninspiring single-player campaign and a short-lived multiplayer segment.
  43. Jun 24, 2011

Short of an outstanding visual appeal, and with a rather poor level design and uninspired story, Red Faction Armageddon won't be able to raise itself above the TPS usual crowd. But despite its shortcomings, the appeal of destructibility and of a very playable action remains efficient enough to see through the solo campaign. Multiplayer may be fun a couple of hours, but it's very forgettable.
  44. Maybe the linear route was cheaper, but the lesson is if you want to go to Mars, don't do it on a budget. [July 2011, p.90]

Not the worst shooter around, but an enormous disappointment compared to its predecessors.

Red Faction: Armageddon contains loads of potential: it has delightful weapons and allows for amazing amounts of destructibility. This potential hardly comes to fruition though, as the game degrades itself to a claustrophobic and cliché-filled hallway-shooter. A few fun vehicle-sections and extra game-modes save this title from getting an insufficient grade.

Technically accomplished and mechanically sound. But unfortunately that's not enough in a world of Dead Spaces and Gears of Wars. Aside from marvelling at the odd collapsing building, there's little here to hold your attention for more than a few hours. It's not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination; it's just an entirely forgettable one.

Red Faction: Armageddon Halfway House - too many boarders with a bit of heart.

Its mechanics are sound but its design uninspired, failing to do any one thing better than the standout entries in the genre. And the few unique tricks it does have, its predecessor did better. After Guerrilla made such a resounding impact, it's a shame that the best you can say about this latest Red Faction is that it's just OK.

The real issue here isn't so much that Armageddon is a mediocre game -- which it is -- rather that it's such a letdown after its excellent predecessor.

Backwards sequel that sabotages or removes all the best features from the last game and wastes one of the best arsenals in gaming.

Red Faction: Armageddon is a very unique game it will offer around 15 hours of game play. The also offers a very detailed storyline and big replay value once the game has been beat. As for the multiplayer side of the game Infestation mode is fun when you have friends with you playing. If you're into a horde like attack and or defend game mode then enjoy. As for Ruin mode, which is online but as a single player mode. I feel like it should have had more than just the maps given and it grew boring once the top scores where beat. Hopefully in the future more is brought to the game as DLC. Full Review »

Red Faction: Armageddon is not a bad game. However, after the awesome story and open-ended mission structure of 2009's awesome Red Faction: Guerrilla! This game has been severely dumbed down compared to that game. The story is awful and the gameplay while fun is extremely linear! Still if you're looking for a game with some cool destruction to kill some time with and you can find this one for under $10 then by all means go for it haha! Full Review »

Red Faction: Armageddon is a nice, well paced, third-person shooter with a ton of fun and some minor flaws. The story is kind of flat and not gripping especially compared to other sci-fy power sellers like ME or Dead Space, but it's also appropriate as a backdrop for pure and intense physics-driven fun. I liked the few but well placed jokes, the atmosphere and the gameplay. If you liked Dead Space 2 for it's uncompromising take on action and because it wasn't as scary as the first one, i promise you'll enjoy this 10 hour fun-ride through mars' underground with all its turret/ vehicle sections and third-person mayhem.

On the other side you face above-average-level-design in eerie environments bound to mars' caverns and overworld. You like caves go with RFA, you like abandoned Spaceships, Dead Space will please you more. Joking apart, nobody should set DS aside for RFA, but it's a nice, fun trip if you're into those kinds of games.

In my opinion a definite sleeper-hit, one of the most underrated games, i' ve played to date.
