Critic score distribution:

  2. Negative: 3 out of 10
  1. 55
The half-hearted RPG nods, quixotic story treatment and frustrating camera detract from a core of solid gameplay.
  2. Rocketmen mixes cel-shaded graphics with old serialized space adventure to provide a twist to old-school, top-down shooting.
  3. A mindless romp that is probably worth the ten dollar price of admission. If you're expecting a title that will provide you with lasting appeal, then you will be sorely disappointed.
  4. In general, the camera is what's keeping Rocketmen from being a ton of fun. But it's still a nice diversion.
  5. Rocketmen Axis of Evil would have been a stellar hit in the 1980s when I was pumping quarters into arcade machines. In 2008 it’s a mediocre title at best.
  6. 63
While it represents better value than many of the titles it rubs shoulders with in the PlayStation Store, it's too annoying to recommend to anyone without a forgiving, patient and, most importantly, mindlessly trigger-happy disposition. [Issue#165, p.93]
  7. While Rocketmen: Axis of Evil doesn’t give off the best first impression, those that take the plunge and buy the game will find a good game that worships the old-school shooters a bit too much at times.
  8. The game itself isn’t much fun, regardless of the number of players. With its plodding, monotonous pace and scattered presentation, Rocketmen doesn’t do enough to separate itself from the seemingly infinite number of other dual joystick shooters available via Xbox Live Arcade or the PlayStation Network.
  9. With juddering graphics, haphazard gameplay, and voice acting that will put you in a mental asylum, this is a download you can definitely skip.
  10. Rocktmen could be thrilling, especially considering the genre isn't exactly prolific, and the four player co-op mode is appealing, but there are many issues.
