In the end, though, what really carries The Stick of Truth along is its innocence, something that may surprise people who have read the stories about Euro censorship but is unlikely to come as a shock to fans of the show itself, which has always offset its raunchiness with an odd sweetness. This is, simply put, pleasant to play.

Shameless, hilarious and surprisingly complex - an essential purchase for RPG and show fans. [May 2014, p.64]

The best South Park game to date (not that that's saying much) and manages to hold up both in terms of RPG mechanics and comedy value. [Issue#242, p.67]

Grabbing this title is a no-brainer for the show's legions of devotees.
  5. Trey Parker and Matt Stone mercilessly tear RPGs a new one while making quite a decent one of their own. [April 2014, p70]

This is essentially a twelve-hour long episode of South Park, with sadistic humour, a huge amount of fan-service, classic turn-based gameplay and Variation with a capital V. It's a great game, though we did notice an unhealthy amount of bugs and framerate issues. We're also severely disappointed by the European censorship, which is completely unnecessary.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is the best video game based on a TV series ever made. If you're a fan of this amazing cartoon you will have fun like a kid at Disneyland on his birthday.

If it wasn't for the genius of that writing, the setting and the characterisation then Stick of Truth would undoubtedly be quickly sidelined as a generic RPG lacking depth and originality. That's really besides the real point, though. Stick of Truth features some of the most daring and explicit writing ever seen in a mainstream video game and it more than makes up for its by-the-numbers gameplay.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is designed with the South Park fan in mind – the one who doesn’t mind gags and gameplay sequences featuring abortion, homosexuality, farts and alien anal probes.

Games like this one make being a videogame fan worthy. Quality, good work, a breathtaking experience and fun, tons of fun. South Park: The Stick of Truth is one of the best games ever on Playstation 3.

Licensed games are difficult, comedy games even moreso, but the Stick of Truth makes it look easy, and that’s maybe the biggest surprise of all.

With a graphical style and humor that are exactly like what you’d expect from South Park, The Stick of Truth is the most successful South Park-game yet. That the gameplay isn’t as fun as the experience is was created for shouldn’t bother the diehard South Park fan.

The Stick of Truth is the best South Park-game ever played, a very fun game in and of itself and gives the franchise a new dimension. Something that only could’ve been done in game-form. It wouldn’t be Obsiadian Entertainment though, if it didn’t have two handfuls of technical issues and design flukes.

Its RPG elements may be a little superficial, and it relies on fetch-questing too much, but faithful production and a laugh-a-minute script means South Park: The Stick of Truth is a true diamond in the licensed game rough.

This isn’t a game for everyone, it is one that can be enjoyed by many, but it will be fans of the show itself, that will get most satisfaction from the game.

If you’ve laughed at the no-holds-barred, no-punches-pulled comedy of Matt Stone and Trey Parker, you’ll very likely enjoy this game. It’s not very long but I have a feeling that when it’s done, you’ll say you’ve had your fill…and your face will still sport a smile.

The Stick of Truth is something that every fan of the TV show will enjoy. It's funny, it's gross, it's addictive, it's everything that we could have hoped for in a South Park game. Too bad the European version is censored at certain parts of the game.

The idea of a role-playing game built on the South Park universe is borderline genius.

This is most definitely a must-buy if you’re a fan of the brand, but even if you aren’t, The Stick of Truth is an incredibly well-made game with a fantastic sense of humor, a unique art style — at least in relation to other games — and deep character customization.
  20. A totally great addition to the South Park franchise. Obisidan and South Park Studios have created a hilarious and successful turn-based RPG. Seeing all those references from the TV show is amazing.

If you like South Park you will love The Stick of Truth, plain and simple. It feels like you are marathoning the show, and marathon you will. It’s so hard to put this game down. When I first picked it up, I found myself, literally, playing it for seven hours straight. I just couldn’t get enough of it.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is the first step in a good direction. We can now hope to have some decent South Park videogames without being too optimistic. Obviously, the game is made for the fans, but Obsidian didn't treat them like fools and made them a really good RPG, which only deserves to be enhanced.

If any game ever challenged the old distinction between graphics and gameplay this is it, because simple as its systems are, and even as dull as the fetch-questing can sometimes be, the look and script and voice-acting carry this rocketing over the finish line – as well as through the taste barrier. In some ways this game is to the RPG genre what the animated series is to celebrity voice overs: a comic impersonation.

Beyond the censorship on the European version, The Stick of Truth is the best South Park RPG that we could have hoped for: exaggerated, irreverent, almost perfect. We already want a sequel, DLC and so on.

A truly brilliant television tie-in. Every scene is stuffed with references and Easter eggs, and the dialogue is so authentically written and acted that you really feel like you’re playing through an episode of the show. Performance issues and minor irritations do hold the experience back a touch, but this is still a must-play for fans of the franchise.

The complete package is a solid piece of work that successfully marries the source material with one of the most beloved game genres out there. Peeling back each layer left me amazed at the scope and depth of the game.
  27. 80
A side-splitting romp with all the sharp satirical humour we've come to expect from South Park. Strip away its wit and, despite a few flaws, you'll find a satisfyingly deep RPG.
  28. Brimming with some of the best dialogue and characters on in a game, The Stick Of Truth is only let down by needless framerate issues and a lack of additional locations beyond South Park itself.

All the fart jokes and Chinpokomon references in the world wouldn’t mean anything if the gameplay weren’t up to snuff, but The Stick of Truth manages to impress as a game on top of being frequently hilarious.

The Stick of Truth makes one thing abundantly clear: I never want to play another South Park video game made without Trey Parker and Matt Stone's direct, intimate involvement.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is everything a fan could have asked for: one very long episode that you can play with. Shame for the censorship on the European version and for the simple gameplay.

This definitely is a must buy if you’re a fan of the show, but even if you aren’t,nows is the time to give it a shot. A lot of people say its like paper mario rag so if your familiar with paper mario i'm sure you'll find the combat to your liking. Stick of the truth has to be what the fans dreamed for.

This is by far the best RPG of the year so far! the combat is old school like paper mario and
mario rpg. This game is also one of the
funniest games i have ever played. there is a ton of fan service in this game but non fans will not fill lost at all.most rpg fans will like this even if not a south park fan.
the only rpg games that have a shot at being better this year are Final fantasy x hd and the witcher 3,
nothing else this year will beat this as far as rpgs go.

The combat system is just amazing, very old school but really enjoyable thanks to a couple of tweaks. The amount of loot is just ridiculous. The only complaint is about the minor bugs that are around and the clunky UI, but that is really subjective. In the end, after a couple of patches, this game will be legendary! Full Review »
