Former quakers wanting to shrug the rust from their reflexes in a different context will love Deadcore, leaving them with a great desire of an even more deadly second chapter.
DeadCore is a skill based game like we don't see enough, made by an indie game studio with lots of passion! When you've finished a level you'll want to play it again just to beat your time. The game is visually stylish. If you liked Portal, Mirror's Edge and indie games in general, you're gonna like it! 10/10, this game deserves encouragements!
Good difficult, a bit short. There was some passage where you need some more trys. Huge worlds and skill needed. One of the best Jump and Run games ever !
If you loved Portal and you're waiting for a product that can deviate from the usual and test your reflexes and patience, you will find in this title by 5 Bits Games right for you.
If you’ve got the patience to keep at it, Deadcore is an amazing new take on a tried and tested formula. The gameplay elements it combines run seamlessly into each other, with nearly flawless level design. It offers immense replayability for the Speed Runner crowd, and a challenging, rewarding experience for everybody who plays it.
An extreme first person platformer designed very skillfully. Every time I died – and I died 343 times on the last level alone – I needed to try again. There’s something in Deadcore that makes you crawl back for more. [02/2015, p.48]
You have to have some interest in speedruns and an affinity for dexterity games from the first-person perspective with a Quake-like pace. Then you might love it, even though you still have to look past an overly obscure level-design.
Surprisingly fun and well developed indie FPS platformer/speedrunner. Very intense and challenging platform action with some pretty crazy puzzles thrown in as well. It's only 5 levels, but expect a grueling 1-2hrs each to complete levels 4 and 5. I have a great sense of pride knowing that I was able to complete this game that has defeated a slew of casual gamers, haha. The satisfaction at the end is definitely worth the frustration as you grind your way through from checkpoint to checkpoint. At times I noticed my elevated heart-rate from the intensity of playing this game. Pretty decent visuals, great music, and a heck of a fun challenge if you have it in you.
An interesting FPS-slash-puzzle platformer with unique and interesting mechanics. Be warned, however - this game is brutally difficult and will actively attempt, at every twist and turn, to frustrate, confound and irritate you. That said, despite this infuriating difficulty it is still rather enjoyable.
I enjoy games with simple mechanics and an emphasis on speedrunning. But this game suffers from the same issues as Cloudbuilt in that it is far too complex. I only managed to get up to level 4 and I gave up half way through it because rather than offering lots of small simple levels, the levels are vast and complex and a nightmare to navigate. It is not easy (at least for me) to find which way to go as there are lots of paths. There are also far too many environmental death traps to navigate. By the time you get to level 4 it's no longer about being quick, but actually just getting through the game. Where Cloudbuilt fails because of its complex environments, extreme pace and many enemies, it at least manages to keep levels short and makes it clear that being fast is what's important. Deadcore, on the other hand, fails because it offers collectibles and long levels. The only thing that makes it remotely apparent that this is a speedrunning game is the timer on your weapon. I'm not sure if I misunderstood the game, but it seems to be that this is more of a "deathtrap navigation puzzle" game than one in which you are under time pressure; at least in the first run. The core mechanics are very promising, as is the general aesthetic and design. But it suffers from complexity which makes it difficult to enjoy and recommend.
A sparse checkpoint system combined with NO ability to select difficulty equals a game that is more frustrating than fun. The casual player won't have the time or patience to replay levels over and over ad nauseum. It's a nice idea ruined by poor execution.
