I really enjoyed Below the Bedrock and can’t wait to see how this season is going to close itself out. Telltale seems to have solved their pacing issue, and with the inclusion of the mystery element in finding Fred’s weapon, have added just enough outside of the general comedy to keep me invested. Will Jesse and crew be able to save Beacontown and defeat The Admin? We’ll find out with the next installment.
Episode four is the good kind of unremarkable for a Telltale game. It maintains the quality storytelling and action that has been present throughout this season while fixing the technical difficulties from the last chapter. It's nothing revolutionary for Minecraft: Story Mode, but it really doesn't need to be. It just needs to be entertaining and engaging through its two-hour runtime, and that's something that it manages to do with ease.
In spite of these small complaints, Below the Bedrock is still another fantastic installment in the surprisingly well-written series so far. Minecraft: Story Mode’s second season continues to feature some of the best writing I’ve ever seen in a Telltale game, and the finale episode simply can’t come soon enough.
Beyond the jokes and humor - another strong point of the series in the last period, Ivor brings numerous revelations about the recent vicissitudes of Beacontown.
Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 - Episode 4 "Below the Bedrock" is another fine episode in this long running series. There's not much that stands out here, and some of the missions you're tasked with are rather boring, but for those that have stuck it out this long, it's more fine content to explore. It also serves as a great penultimate episode, setting things up for an epic showdown in the finale.
While the final shot does give me a sense of intrigue about the finale, the rest of the episode does very little to excite me. Telltale addressed its main issues with the last episode by doubling down on action and providing more meaningful interactions, but with such a detour from the main conflict right before the final episode, much of the tension was let out of the balloon. I'm still curious to see how this all plays out, but Below the Bedrock did little to fuel my interest.
SummaryTogether with old pals and new comrades alike, Jesse embarks on a brand new journey filled with tough choices, good times, and at least one temperamental llama.
