  • Summary: The Amazing Spider-Man, this all-new third-person action-adventure video game builds on the story of the previous game with an alternative take on the events of the upcoming movie, while also giving players an enhanced, free-roaming web-slinging experience through a greatly expanded New York City.

The more I play The Amazing Spider-Man 2, however, the more I'm viewing it as a superhero game that just happened to have come out at the same time as a movie wih the same name. Obviously, there's a little more corporate synergy at work than that, but it's a sign of this game's quality that it 100% stands up on its own.

For all but the most passionate Spider-Man fans, TAS2 is one you can safely skip or get by with on a rental.

Perhaps the biggest problem with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is that it doesn't stray much from the previous game's formula, and when it does, it actively detracts from the game.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an entertaining but flawed experience. Beenox has aced the web swinging, but the controls are unreliable and the camera work is horrific at times. It’s apparent that the game was rushed to be released at the same time as the movie.

Although The Amazing Spider-man 2 isn't a catastrophic disaster by any means, there's also absolutely nothing to recommend it.

To summarize, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a pity. It's a pity because the potential is there. I do not understand why they cannot treat this superhero with more respect and why they always have to wait for a movie to force a simplistic system in the "awesomeness" that is navigating from web to web through New York.

Developer Beenox showed in the past, with Shattered Dimensions, that it not only has fresh ideas for Spidey but the development chops to create a polished and impressive game built around the character. There's none of that inspiration or attention to detail here.

If you love your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, you'll love this game! I love the dynamic feel it has. So many surprises as soon as you start to play. Takes a while to get the hang of it, but like anything you'll get the hang(Yes, pun intended) of it. All in all the game is a great adaptation to be the webhead! Expand

Great game, excellent web-swining mechanics and gameplay, great work with enviroment(being able to stick foes to walls, rappel etc.).

downside - combat system is lacking, story was ok but could've been better. Expand

I'm surprised this game got such bad reviews. Sure it was pretty similar to the first and it was pretty short, but it was still relatively fun.The combat made quite an improvement from the first one and the web slinging couldn't be better. They also had many different attracting costumes with different stats. There was a lot of boss fights too. All the criticism from the first one was improved and for at least working on that they should have got better than what it was reviewed. I could see a lot of Spidey fans enjoying it. All in all, this game was lots of fun, certainly not a top tier game but still an enjoyable one. Expand

Really fun game, but not really different then the first amazing spiderman game other than the storyline. Theres a few minor differences but it's mostly the same tactics, map, etc..

Still fun though but I wish it was more different.

Beenox deserves a trophy for this game. Not in the sense that this game is fantastic ( or by anyway above tolerable ) but considering the limitations and budget placed on them by Notorious Publisher Activision and their considerably small budget, this game is a standing achievement. This is one of the most enjoyable Movie licensed games in recent years ( Along with XMEN Origins:Wolverine ).

I will not bore you with the details, seeing as there are literally dozens of other sources that go far more in depth then I'd go,my advice would simply be this: If you are a massive Spider-Man game or you liked the previous title this isn't a bad purchase.Anyone else would be better off waiting for the eventual price drop and picking the game up then.

Somehow worse than the original. First of all, that whole shtick about webs sticking to buildings is fake. You can still moon swing on several occasions, and there are tons of videos out there showing it. The game was designed so poorly that it can't even accomplish the simple task of not letting webs stick to the clouds, something Spider-Man 2 did years ago. The combat system is also worse, and fights tend to be a mess since the camera can no longer focus on enemies, ever, not even during boss fights. You'll most likely be fighting with the **** camera angles rather than the other guy who's trying to kill you. What else? Missions are boring, uninspired, repetitive. There's an annoying little cutscene before and after every petty crime, slowing the game's pace. Animations are stiff. Story is dumb. Clearly a rushed sequel. Beenox did good in Shattered Dimensions, but after all these failed attempts to create another hit maybe it's time to look for someone else. Expand

If you liked the first one, you'll hate this one. Everything that was good about the last one sucks here. The web-slinging is atrocious and now getting across Manhattan is no longer fun and simple but a chore and obnoxious. The combat is ok but the camera both during combat and while web-slinging is horrible and almost never showy like it was before. The story is horrible. Kraven is ok but the Peter Parker segments do nothing and even the overarching story is bad. There's a lot less of a focus on free-roaming and far more linearity in this one. Finally, I swear the graphics are worse in this one than the last. Also it glitches out and prevents you from completing objectives. This game clearly needed a lot more development time (among other things) DO NOT BUY. Instead just play the older one. Expand
