This is easily the best first person dungeon crawler I’ve ever played. The depth and amount of content is insane. A masterpiece of the genre in my opinion. Hopefully we get the sequel translated someday.
This game is brilliant. The party building is wonderful, the dungeons are complex but not *too* difficult, the visuals are great (esp. the pretty grills), the story is interesting, etc. All around a great dungeon crawler any lover of the genre can enjoy. The only complaint I can come up with is that the interface could be quite a bit better.
If you are a fan of Japanese dungeon crawlers then you will probably like this game, if you also love fan service and ecchi then this title is for you.
This game really only applies to the anime crowd, as it’s not for everyone, but if you are one of those few who don’t mind some questionable young ladies popping tits and ass in the air after each boss fight, then you will find a good, humorous dungeon crawler in Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & the Monster Seal.
While the fan service is a bit heavy handed and some of the gameplay elements feel a bit dated, at its core DT2 is a competent, albeit unremarkable first-person dungeon crawler.
If you enjoyed Demon Gaze on the Vita you'll surely love this game too. I love this game so much more than Etrian Odessey and that Abyss game that was released a short while ago. A great dungeon crawler, good party system. Just the 'male content' wasn't neccesary to be in this game. A good game doesn't need to rely on that.
Dungeon travelers 2 is an excellent example that a fan service game can also be a good game with solid mechanics. If you're a fan of DRPGs, I'd recommend this game.
So you will know what type of gamer is writing this review, i'll list three of my favorite games.
Danganronpa, Fire Emblem, and Atelier Totori.
I also wish metacritic would give us the options of points when rating because i wanted to give this a 7.5 score
THE GOOD:
VOICE ACTING: This game was constantly voice acted. The voice acting is in Japanese though in case you didnt know that yet. I can't tell you if the voice acting was good quality because I actually block it out to read the dialogue. I can tell that Japanese voice actors tend to be higher pitched which annoys me personally.
MUSIC: Music is great in this game at times while other times its average. The last dungeon and final boss fight had some of the best music Ive heard in video games.
GAMEPLAY: Theres good and bad mixed in here actually. The level up system is awesome and you can choose between about a dozen different party members by the endgame. Each member has a unique ability also. You can also change party members classes after a certain level requirement. I'll delve more into this further down in this review.
GRAPHICS AND ART: The dungeons graphics are good but nothing amazing is ever seen. The characters art is very nicely done though. There was never any animataions in this game.
GAMEPLAY TIME AND ENDGAME CONTENT: My gameplay time upon completion was 55 hours without doing many quest or grinding. There seems to be a lot of endgame content but i havnt started that yet. I do see that there is 2 extra dungeons at least.
THE BAD:
STORY: mediocre, very mediocre. You could really tell they didnt put much thought into it. The ending was blah as well but that was expected.
IN DEPTH REVIEW:
The main protoganist is the worst that i have ever played in any rpg. He's a goody two shoes rule upholder and actually tells a girl that she has a chubby stomach and flabby arms after she invited him into her room to give her a massage.
The dungeons are the worst. They are specifically designed to annoy you. Such as, one way walls walls that force you to backtrack floortraps that inflict your party with status ailments, and too many battles, the enemy has a great chance of a preemptive strike that can kill half your party before you can even act. There is a skill with a certain class that can help increase your chances of a preemptive strike but you have to pour your skill points into it. The game is very hard at times and never really feels rewarding, just annoying.
Character customization is incredible. After level 15, you can change a members class into a more advnaced class. You can choose between two classes each time you change class. You can change into an even more advanced class at level 30. Each of these classes you change into have uniques skills that you can upgrade with skill points. You obtain skill points from leveling up and can earn points from using a special item on a party member but these are rare of course. Also, when you change class, your party members costume changes which can be a good thing or bad actually. Some of the costumes ruined a characters appearance in my opinion. You can also upgrade equipment in this game which allows you to put specific boost to each characeters equipment.
Every party member is a girl in this game. This game has the most fan service i have ever seen in any other game. There are probaly about 35 different panty shots and rears are show half nude sometimes.
While this game is good, i would have to reccommend Demon Gaze instead. It is very hard as well and has some fanservice too, but not nearly as much as Dungeon Travelers 2. Nonetheless, Demon Gaze has english voice acting and its dungeons arent annoying. Its almost identical to this game actually except just better in my opinion. Demon Gazes storyline is slightly better also.
That wraps it up. Hope it helps.
Proceeding with the game, it becomes too difficult and therefore frustrating. The plot and the illustrations are very nice and cute, it's a shame that the pleasure of the story is ruined by the difficult gameplay. If there had been an option to make the game much easier it would have been perfect.
i dont know but if u are not a fan of dungeon explorings, this rpg doesnt do much better than other rpg on vita
limited supply of health potion in early stage really got me. no money to buy potion in shops, no loot drop on journey, lack of damage dealing from second character makes first mission impossible to achieve.
i dont recommend this title unless u are a big fan of dungeon crawlers
