It’s slightly off-putting that it definitely takes too long to get to the higher levels, and consequently that it strays close to undermining that desire to instantly have “just one more go.” The overall quality of the matching experience was ultimately strong enough to pull me back, largely helped by the smart secondary Puzzle Mode.

Ironically, what makes Surge Deluxe so instantly sensational is perhaps also what holds it back from being one of the greats. That riot of colour and sound, that constant positive reinforcement, can make it feel a little too eager to please. And yet each play session offers a very tangible surge, a rush of dopamine that will take some time to wear off.

Energetic, exuberant, and engaging: Surge Deluxe is a puzzler from an earlier time... and is all the better for it.

Objectively speaking, it’s a game with visuals that functions, and that’s how it shall be scored.

Surge Deluxe is perfect for a handheld system, allowing the player to dip in and out as they please.

The only occasionally clumsy element in Surge Deluxe’s otherwise efficiently streamlined processes is you – or, rather, your big fat finger. Tracing lines between blocks obscures the screen, which can make quick, precise movements difficult, especially between narrow gaps.

If you're after value, Surge Deluxe delivers: it's pretty, it's cheap and it's a good quick game to play. Just don't expect anything game-changing. [Issue#145, p.115]

If you’re looking for an intense and addictive puzzle game for your PS Vita, Surge Deluxe will blow your fingers with an interesting and fun gameplay.

A great alternative to Candy Crush and its clones, that’s just a few tweaks – and a visual makeover – away from being a classic puzzler.
  10. A neat and deceptively inventive puzzler. [Apr 2014, p.87]

Puzzle games have always been a highlight on handhelds, and Surge Deluxe carries on this tradition. It’s amazing that despite largely lacking the AAA blockbuster titles, the Vita has become something of an indie paradise. Surge Deluxe is the latest, and one of the best.

Surge Deluxe will keep you hooked from start to finish making it one of the best games I have played on the Vita for a long time. With its simple yet addictive gameplay, players will be compelled to keep plugging away at it in hopes of beating their high score, while the Trophies are sure to keep you coming back for more.

Surge Deluxe is a shockingly enjoyable experience built upon an engaging leaderboard system that constantly encourages you to up your game.

It is an update but the features added are substantial, this seems to be a reworking of the title as opposed to just adding in trophies and shipping it.

Bright and beautiful, frenetic and challenging – it’s a wonderful puzzle game that works brilliantly on the PS Vita. There’s not a lot of content, though, and once you get bored of trying to climb the leaderboards you’re unlikely to go back for a blast of the puzzle mode more than once or twice.

It has just enough little nuances to set it apart from the vast ocean of similar puzzle games available across the digital oceans and it’s yet another solid indie title in Vita’s ever-growing catalogue.

Futurlab does it again! Surge Deluxe is a wonderfully challenging and highly addicting - though rather short - experience that shouldn't be absent in any puzzle fan's gaming collection.

FuturLab demonstrates a fine understanding of what once made puzzle games so great. If you own a Vita, you should buy this -- particularly at such a generous price point.

However, true longevity of this game would be just a few hours I would say, because it gts repetitive quite quickly. To be honest, these kind of games should be free, I got it from PS Plus free, so it's all good, but I can't imagine paying for this kind of stuff. 5/10 Full Review »

The constant threat of the time limit and pressure build up will keep you on your toes, and it's addictive enough to become yet another game that will have you saying "just one more go." The main mode of the game will keep you coming back in order to beat your best score or unlock more trophies, but I found the game's puzzle mode to be a bit lackluster. I just didn't feel the same addictive quality in it, which disappointed me a bit. Still, the overall package can be an absolute blast. So if you're looking for a fast-paced and addictive puzzler to take with you on the go, then this is worth your time. Full Review »
