Involving and exciting characters, storylines, and battles keep you glued to your seat - and keep you from noticing the many hours you spend playing this amazing game.
  2. Spanning four discs, this is a massive RPG. You can try and skate through it in 50 hours but can easily spend over a 100 hours playing if you decide to take on all of the side games, collect all of the Cards and experience all there is to experience from this game.
  3. Between the story, the beautiful graphics, music score, and the insanely enthralling card game mini-game, Final Fantasy VIII does the series proud.
  4. The game's major weakness is in the combat system - there's too many loopholes that can be exploited with the Draw technique, making combat tedious and mundane after a while.

Things were more "real" this time around. [Feb 2003, p.97]
  6. I just can't say enough about the graphics in this game either. After you play all the way throuugh this game, you will not be able to say that you did not get your money's worth.

A travesty. A mockery of the good name of Final Fantasy.

I've gone back and finished it at least 5 times, and the story never gets old.

I honestly never understood how people would claim VII as being the best Final Fantasy of all time, the story and gameplay of VIII took everything that was good in VII and made it better.

The story is as you expect from Final Fantasy, EPIC. The characters have a lot of depth. Squall (lead character) is very cool, quiet and you hear his thoughts and concerns that he's thinking that he keeps locked up. Squall is often wrongly referred to as emo. If you think Squall is loud and whiney then you either haven't played the game or you don't know what 'emo' is. FFVIII is one of the harder Final Fantasy games while at the same time isn't grind heavy. The junction system is very complex and customisable and adds a lot of depth not seen in other RPGs. Unlike other RPGs you collect your magic either from enemies or from the world and then use them in battle or use them to boost your stats. You can miss some summons (GFs) if your not aware some are retrieved from bosses and that can be a pain, though you can get them at end game if you can reach it with out some GFs. This game is unlike modern RPGs, as it's of a very high quality from start to finish and not full of dull side quests to pad the game. Expand

The story here is very deep and intricate compared to the vast majority of games. The world is well crafted. The only niggles that hold me back from rating this a 10 are minor issues with the difficulty pacing, possibly leading players into boss fights they do not have the braun to win in areas they cannot rectify the issue in (disc 4 first boss, exp is 1 a fight in this area, and it's easy to reach this point massivly under-powered if you're a fast player). It is also possible to max your character and GF levels out on the first disc extremely quickly by exploiting certain easy to defeat monsters in very early areas of the world map. Expand
