God of War: Ghost of Sparta is the perfect swansong for Ready At Dawn, their mastery of the PSP unmatched, and it's also a fitting climax to a portable sadly suffering in the shadows of endless rumours of a successor.

The sound design is incredible, with many varied tracks with authentic and unique sounding instruments that organically change depending on the on-screen action.
  3. Indeed, Sparta is not only a great PSP game but a great God of War game with an absolutely incredible ending. [Dec 2010, p.42]

A by-the books add-on to the franchise that maintains and raises the high bar of the franchise. There are a lot of nice new things to do in the game and the plot expands the canon of the franchise quite a bit. I do wish they had introduced a few new things and taken the game in some new direction but the game is still excellent

But whatever you do, don't miss out on this fantastic new installment in the God of War saga. The story will impact you as much as the insane action, and with dazzling visuals and sound, this is one adventure you can't afford to miss.

Kratos is definitely back as are all the wondrous mythological creatures and settings of ancient Greece.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta is the best game on the PSP, pushing the boundaries of a handheld device with breathtaking graphics, a striking story, and enough combat to keep your thumbs busy for many hours.

Ghost of Sparta is incredibly well balanced and highly polished. It's an experience that is defining for both Kratos and the system. If you own a PSP, then you owe it to yourself to play this game. If not, then it's time to finally get one.

Stunning and impresive - Ghost of Sparta takes the gameplay of later God of Wars adding some new features and an incredible graphic engine. Ready at Dawn did its best to fulfill the hopes of the entire fanbase of the franchise, and they're successful in doing it. One of those games that you better go and buy without any further hesitation.

Ghost of Sparta doesn't have any mind-blowing moments of sheer magnitude like the console entries, but it compensates with a handful of cool special sequences that fill in parts of Kratos' history and character.

Unbelievably, the developers at Ready at Dawn managed to top what they did with Chains of Olympus, delivering a longer, deeper, and more graphically beautiful game than even they thought was originally possible. Ghost of Sparta is, without a doubt, one of the best games available for the PSP.

Fluid combat, well-designed levels, and boss battles that will remind you precisely why you love the series in the first place make Ready at Dawn's second entry in the series a God among portable games.

God Of War: Ghost Of Sparta is an authentic masterpiece. The combat system, as well as the level design and the enemy's A.I., reach perfection. A must-have for all PSP owners and for the fans of the series.

Probably the best game available on Psp, Ghost of Sparta is a "real" God of War from every perspective, and a fantastic game that every fan of the series should not miss.

This is one of the most fun and polished games in the PSP, and offers what series followers are looking for. As in many cases, its only drawback is that we have already seen this formula many times, althought not so many in a portable console.

Everything is put together so well that, unless you've become truly tired of the franchise, Ghost of Sparta is well worth playing. This portable title, while it may not be the best or most original entry in the series, is more than worthy of the God of War name.
  22. Chains of Olympus was a pretty title, but even it stands as nothing compared to this graphical juggernaut. While there's no denying that the scenes depicted within can't compare with the exercise in colossal that was God of War III, the amazingly high fidelity of the graphics are guaranteed knock your sandals off in other ways. Don't let the seemingly diminutive size of the PSP fool you, this is one of the best games in the GOW series. [January 2011 p80]

This part in the God of War franchise is a great one. The gameplay is as usual fantastic, the action is great and the graphics and audio are genius. This is a must have for every PlayStation Portable owner. The only sad part is, that you can complete the game in five hours.

Ghost of Sparta is truly a God of War-game in the most positive sense. It offers spectacular action, incredible graphics and an epic storyline. This could very well be the best PlayStation Portable-game to date.

Kratos is still very, very angry... and this new, beautiful adventure, that covers the events between GoW and GoW2, will give you a shot of what the PSP hardware is capable of. Maybe the best action game for this system, and one of the best of all time.

Ghost of Sparta may not deviate from the usual God of War experience, but it certainly presents those core concepts which made the series a standard exceptionally well and with nearly untouchable graphical and auditory prowess on the handheld format.

It also feels like one of the tightest games in the series, with a satisfying, revealing narrative that a few of the games in the series has lacked.
  34. 90
If Chains of Olympus is equivalent to the first God of War game, then Ghost of Sparta is God of War II. Bigger, badder, and beefier in every way than its predecessor, this is a true God of War experience down to the very core, and you can take it anywhere you wish.

It's just really pretty, has refined combat and a more engrossing story than Chains of Olympus. If you were hoping for something really innovative, you're out of luck. If you have a PSP and haven't played it since beating Peace Walker (I can hardly blame you), it's time to get it out and charge it up.

Ghost of Sparta is beyond doubt the best action experience you can find on your PSP. Still, it feels like a small step back from the evolution of the saga achieved by the last HD chapter: puzzles section are completely useless and mechanics feel somehow old. A very good work, but not the masterpiece it could've been.

Kratos' appearance on the PSP is a blast. Its epicness is unparalleled as well as the graphics, but some weaknesses like invisible walls hurt the almost invincible Kratos.

While Ghost of Sparta doesn't do anything revolutionary or really tweak the series, it still serves as an excellent action-adventure title that fans of the series will fully enjoy. If this is the last time we see Kratos on the PSP, thankfully, he ends on a high note.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta is probably the weakest entry in the franchise. It has a relatively unimpressive story, fairly unmemorable locations, toned-down enemies and lackluster upgrades. At its heart, it's still a God of War game, and it is still fun to play.
  47. Dec 22, 2010
    84
God of War: Ghost of Sparta fills in another piece of Kratos' past. With more innovative gameplay mechanics and brand new magic and weapons, it's entertaining and engaging, especially for fans of the franchise.

Ghost of Sparta seems like the last bit of story that can be rung out of Kratos' story, so Sony Santa Monica has a lot of work ahead of themselves to figure out what is next for the series.

This is God Of War exactly as you know it. Which means that whether or not you enjoy the nine hours Ghost Of Sparta offers is almost entirely dependent on whether you can stomach another God Of War. [Christmas 2010, p.101]

The main problem with taking the series back onto the Playstation portable from the PS3 is that the series loses the grand depth that was created in God of War III. Sure, this is set in the timeline after the first God of War, but veterans of the series have already gotten used to the more complex combat system and epic bosses.
  51. Jan 2, 2011

It has the best elements of the franchise, but this doesn't make it the best entry in it. Everything is just too similar to what we've already played, and you can't stop thinking that the developers just took the easy path.

Kratos' road to revenge is a well-worn path, and while Ghost of Sparta doesn't have a whole lot new to offer, it is a tight, fun and great-looking adventure for the PSP.

And while Ghost of Sparta is still better than most other games (especially on the increasingly bone-dry PSP), it's a strangely by-the-numbers outing for one of gaming's most inventively brutal anti-heroes.
  60. Oct 26, 2010
    80
Ghost of Sparta is a tech demonstration that knocks out any competition on the PSP. Its combat exudes an unmatched feeling of power and exhilaration, and the epic directing we've come to love is back, as thrilling as ever, from start to finish. It's another unmissable iteration for the series for beat'em up and kratos' fans alike, even though its story isn't really its strong suit, and some attempts at offering novelty in the gameplay aren't that convincing. It still works beautifully. We still hope next time, the developers will risk a little more in order to bring some novelty into the mix, even though with such an IP, it's obviously a difficult thing to achieve.
  61. Oct 26, 2010
    80
If God of War: Ghost of Sparta would've lasted longer with better controls, it would be an instant classic. But it is still a well executed God of War game that outshines almost all PSP competition today.
  62. Oct 25, 2010
    80
God of War: Ghost of Sparta is in every way a competent addition to the series. The storyline is good, if not the deepest in the series, and everything from design to the graphics are quite spectacularly well for the platform. It should give you between eight and ten hours of play, so you definitely get more for your money this time.
  63. Oct 25, 2010
    80
Ghost of Sparta uses the PSP's full potential and nails the franchise's big-screen feel in the handheld format. It may not elevate the franchise to new heights, but is the best we've seen from it on the PSP.
  64. Oct 25, 2010
    80
Ghost of Sparta is visually stunning and effectively implements the combat and quick-time events from God of War 3. Although the multiple playthroughs required for acquiring basic unlockables feels like padding to extend the game, the initial six-hour campaign is nevertheless brutally action-packed.
  65. Dec 22, 2010

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But don't overdo it to the point that it starts to feel dull either.
  67. Oct 25, 2010

As an action game, as a PSP game – hell, simply just as a video game – Ghost of Sparta is entertaining and well worth a play. As a God of War game, though, it's a reluctant step backward, in its linearity, sparse bosses battles, and lack of weapon and magic options.

Very smooth but pretty much deja-vu, God of War : Ghost of Sparta is undoubtedly superior to its predecessor Chains of Olympus. Though, it still suffers the comparison with the Kratos' domestic adventures, in particular because it borrows a lot from the latter and doesn't manage to make its own way.
  69. Dec 22, 2010
    70
I'm not sure whether the series should be criticised for repeating a formula that has proven so successful up until now, but I'm equally unconvinced that Ghost of Sparta is worthy of a great deal of praise.
  70. Dec 21, 2010
    70
It's a technical tour de force for the PSP, but also one sequel to many for a series that is in dire need of a reboot - or perhaps simply a rest.
  71. Oct 25, 2010
    70
It's an impressive feat for sure, but to focus solely on that would be unfair to both the talented studio and venerable franchise: there's so much potential unexplored here, and occasional glimmers of ingenuity in Ready at Dawn's efforts show a developer that should be able to do better.
  72. Oct 25, 2010

It's a staggering achievement that makes it difficult to imagine a better handheld God of War today. And yet, as with the stories upon which it's based, this is a game with nothing new to say, a myth told many times before and, in some cases, told better.
  73. Dec 21, 2010

Sparta also unfortunately arrives in the same year as the PlayStation 3's God Of War III. No one expects as much bang-for-your-buck from a portable game as they would a console game, but for players who rode atop high-definition Titans only a few months ago, Sparta inevitably feels small and miserly.

This game has an amazing story, cool and awesome with nice roles in the game, and of course, a gameplay that never gets old, and the best graphics I've ever seen for a PSP game. This realistic, fun, and awesome adventure will make you have the fun playing as Kratos, anywhere and anytime, because it is portable.

Gameplay: 10/10 - The gameplay never gets old --- Fresh and good controls, you can get new skills in the game, and more.
Music: 10/10 - The music never gets annoying and keeps the game fun and exciting.
Story: 10/10 - They don't added more than what they needed, just something easy to learn, specially if you have played the first GoF games.
Graphics: 10/10 - Remember, this is a handheld console made in 2004... The graphics are simply amazing and won't make you lag. Sony and Capcom made an amazing job at this point.
