  1. The real meat and potatoes of the game lies in the championship mode. Hardcore fans of the sport will be delighted to know that it is an exact reproduction of the real life version.
  2. Hands down, WRC is some of the best racing on the PSP. [Apr 2006, p.132]
  3. While there's certainly no shortage of PSP racing games on the shelves, there's a veritable drought when it comes to Rally games: a drought that Bandai Namco Games intends to eradicate with the impressive WRC. [Mar 2006, p.50]
  4. Designed with both replayability and pick up & play in mind, WRC is both lengthy and challenging, but simple enough to play for 10 minutes a day on the train to work, between classes at college, or any other scenario where time is needing some killing.
  5. An easy and decent-enough rally game. There is nothing amazing, though. And PSP is not the best platform for semi-realistic racing. [Jan 2006]
  6. All told, WRC: World Rally Championship doesn't break any new ground, but it is, nevertheless, a solid rally racer.
  7. Sadly, its multiplayer support is almost nonexistent, and a few gameplay quirks conspire to make the driving less fun than it could have been. Still, WRC is a good, solid first try at bringing the sport of rally racing to the PSP system, even if it doesn't quite nail every component.
  8. Perhaps the most convenient feature of WRC is its much-appreciated and often-used instant reset. When - not if - you make a mistake and end up stuck behind a boulder or upside down in a ditch, hitting the reset starts the race over immediately - no loading at all.
  9. This will make no converts to the rally sport field, but those already singing with the off-road choir will get a blast out of the ability to drive like a maniac through the mountains when they're away from home.
  10. There's nothing to really love, but nothing to really hate either. [Apr 2006, p.78]

It can be fun to drive and the game looks nice, but you're also playing catch-up rather than fairly racing against time, it's easy to hit a small piece of land and flip or spin your car and your navigator is only of modest help.
  12. Rallying is tight and awkward on the PSP's small screen, and though WRC has plenty going for it, it's just not as much fun as other PSP racing games. [Nov 2006, p.155]

A solid racer, but it is definitely not for everyone. Take it out for a spin only if you're familiar with rally racing. Otherwise, this niche sport is worth passing up.
  14. A decent racer that doesn't come close to fulfilling its potential. Still, it's currently the only choice for rally racing on the PSP. [Apr 2006, p.89]

WRC for the PSP is a disappointing title, it feels scaled down for the PSP and only features one main single player mode, there has been no thought put into the multiplayer mode and the song selection is poor, if you simply must own a rally title then Colin McRae Rally 2005 is a better title.
  16. 50
Useless analog steering, weird collision issues, and the lack of a decent multiplayer mode keep it from being a winner.
  17. 50
Yet another disappointing rally game, and yet another example of lazy developers cashing in on the PSP's architecture. [...] Alas, the game comes out maintaining only one real feature of its bigger brother: the damage engine. Everything else — from the sub-par graphics to the horrible control — takes away any possible enjoyment you could get out of this game.
  18. The PSP version of WRC has a different developer than the PS2-version - and it shows. New developer Traveller’s Tales has done good work in the past, but based on this the team lacks experience in the rally game genre. The cars sound lame, it’s hard to drive the Special Stages as it’s very unclear where you should be driving. Most of the time your car feels like it’s floating above the road. [Sept 2005, p 58]

This game is very underrated....great graphics and loads to do with 64 stages....great to play in short bursts as it autosaves after every stage.....just a perfect PSP rally game with just some slight problems with steering mainly to do with the PSP itself. Full Review »
