What makes Showgunners so addicting is that its combat is tight, responsive, fair, and accessible. The options available to players during combat and exploration are just enough to feel varied without feeling overly complicated; though the combat U.I. can get cluttered at times. This is the perfect game for players that are new to this genre or for veterans looking for a more casual experience that still provides enough of a challenge to stay interesting.
If you like Running Man style movies, this time you can experience for yourself what it's like to be both hunter and victim at the same time. A successful combination of exploring the environment with real-time traps and puzzles and intuitive turn-based battles creates a fun and unconventional experience.
Having only played fantasy turn based games like divinity (in which i got 160hrs+) i wasn't expecting much from a shooter, but i was intrigued to finally give one a go and I had blast playing it! Characters have fun abilities and actually many of them! Lack of abilities and mostly just shooting was my biggest worry going in to a tactical shooter, but i was worried for nothing. There are a lot of abilities! Melee kill chain setups with Scarlett once you unlock enough perks are so satisfying! Itemization, character progression, sponsorship bonuses, new characters as i progressed, it never got stale or boring. Highly recommend to anyone that likes turn based games (even if you thought you'd never enjoy a shooter tactical game).
Very enjoyable title! Perfect entry to the genre for me, as the gameplay is fun and very accessible. Also, what’s remarkable in these times, the game is well optimized and has very few bugs. I am definitely looking forward to seeing some DLCs now.
The setting is a good fit for turn-based tactics and the bite-sized approach really works in its favor. Just don't expect a game that will last you for weeks, and once it's finished, you have seen pretty much everything it has to offer. However, if you are looking for an accessible tactics game that is fun to play and doesn't overstay its welcome, Showgunners is an easy recommendation.
Although it has a great atmosphere, Showgunners doesn’t cultivate the pathos that it’s capable of. As such, you’ll find pulpy motivations for the polished turn-based strategy, which positions the title in the secondary tier of XCOM-type titles. Tactics fans could do worse.
There’s nothing groundbreaking about Showgunners, but the game engagingly blends turn-based combat with real-time exploration and uncomplicated yet intellectually challenging puzzles. Despite some degree of repetitiveness, the dragged-out ending, and a couple of other shortcomings, I believe Showgunners deserves giving it a chance.
Showgunners has its fair share of new ideas, and it's best when it uses them. Moving around the world to find useful rewards adds an additional, relatively low stress, layer to a solid tactics experience. Meeting new contestants and fans, who are varied, expands the world and those that live in it. Inside combat, a lot will feel familiar to tactics veterans, but fresh elements are at least complex enough to sustain a playthrough. Forgoing procedural generation in contestants, defenders, and levels limits replayability, but it also eliminates pressure. You will never lose your favorite playable contestant for good because of a miscalculation. Their worst fate is a battle restart. Once the season is over, it's hard not to imagine the next as one with a plethora of characters who could be knocked out of competition for good, but the first season is at least good enough to leave you wanting a second.
Quick and dirty, Showgunners is a turn-based strategy for people with short attention spans and a need for instant gratification. Shrinking the experience down robs you of the majesty of something like XCOM’s strategic brilliance, but you won’t regret the time you spend here.
Not perfect, but very enjoyable game. I really like it. If You like Gears Tactics, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and other simple turn-based not overly complicated games, this one is for You. I'm 40yo, I don't have much time and I tried some of the older AAA titles, but they all require at least a day or two just for getting into a game, have tons of texts and interaction. I'm a simple man, I need simpler games, like they used to be in late 90's and early 00's, not like nowadays, when everything has to have TONS of content, super hyper large open world, etc.
I don't need that, I need entertainment, no hyper depth required.
SHOWGUNNERS can be a mediocre game that doesn't offer anything new in terms of gameplay or visual design. Lack of originality, confusing gameplay, and technical issues may make this game not a recommended choice for online shooter fans.
SummaryAs a contestant on a high stakes reality game show of the future, you must survive a dangerous urban environment packed with traps, confounding puzzles, and heavily armed psychopaths. Turn-based combat in hand crafted levels, built for entertainment.
