Sonic Origins Plus is the best way to play 16-bit Sonic video games. Skill challenges, modes specifically designed for speedrunners, and the ability to play each level with all the series' main characters make this collection a must-have for Sonic fans, despite the quite high price. The museum, once all the entries have been unlocked, is a great source of information, and the platformer action is still able to entertain after thirty years. The Game Gear section is unlikely to spark interest, but the more the content, the higher the value.
Although the Sonic Origins Collection is aimed at those who are nostalgic for early days of Blue Blur, we believe that new players will also enjoy these improved versions of the beloved 2D games that graced a beautiful period of the 90s. Game Gear games are just cherry on the top!
Sonic Origins keeps the focus on the hedgehog's early core entries, polishing them up to a fine sheen and creating an addictive ecosystem around them that breathes new life into each title. The new and improved Plus version is a bit of a mixed bag of additions, but more is still better, especially for anyone picking it up for the first time as a complete package.
While the Game Gear games in Sonic Origins Plus don’t look, sound, or play great, the problem comes down to these games not being that good originally — not that they're bad ports. Buy Sonic Origins Plus for the Genesis games and to play as Amy, but don't expect the Game Gear games to run away with your heart.
If you’ve already got the base game, I can’t imagine you’ll get much out of Origins Plus. If you grew up playing the Game Gear, great news! These are twelve colorful trips down memory lane. Otherwise, I don’t recommend it. Turns out Sega’s first portable gaming experiment aged rather poorly. Sonic Origins is a fun and accessible way to play Sonic’s greatest hits. But Origins Plus spends too much time on bland, awful games.
While it definitely has some minor issues and is overpriced still definitely a very good collection in my opinion and it was my first experience to the classic games and overall had a really good time! I like that the medals can be used as retries in the bonus stages! And I like how every game as opening and ending cutscene which makes the experience more enjoyable by having those and I love that beating all 4 main games rewards you with one final cutscene!
This game is absolutely amazing. Literally the best way to play Sonic 1, 2 and 3. It's upscaled for modern TVs, the extras are great, it puts a proper spin dash in Sonic 1, all characters are playable across all titles, there's a pretty good mission mode, YOU CAN RETRY CHAOS EMERALD CHALLENGES! So much good stuff. Why a 7 then you ask? It made me play through Sonic CD. It's the only downside. Truly abysmal, but necessary to see all the connecting cutscenes across the game (which are also awesome as its the same team that did Sonic Mania adventures animated them). Games unbelievable aside from that.
I thought Sonic Origins was just a good collection
But the Plus expansion was actually better (not so much).
So let's talk about positives:
I'll start with Amy
I found Amy to be surprisingly great playable character.
I'm not a huge fan of her Advance moveset (cuz it ****)
Yes, i know Amy controls like Sonic
But it's still so fun.
This expansion was also added Knuckles into CD.
Okay.
Why they aren't added Knuckles into the vanilla Origins?
I don't know
But we have different paths for him, and that's already cool.
And we also received patches, that are changed the game for better.
That's for the positives.
Now onto negatives:
The Game Gear games are in my opinion decent.
Some of them are atrocious, like Labyrinth and Blast
But some of them are great.
However, where is the Master System versions for some of the Game Gear games?
That'll be so cool, if we will have the option to switch between versions.
That's a missed opportunity.
The Surprise mode is cool, but the reward is underwhelming.
And they are kept these bad prototype remixes for Sonic 3
Without even leaving for us the option to change between the prototype music and remixes.
They still aren't fixed some of the biggest Origins' missed opportunities.
Like the save files for Sonic 2, that has the messy character selection.
No additional filters from Mania.
The Classic Mode still feels fake (Sonic 1 still has Spindash and Sonic 2 still has the pit that leads to Hidden Palace).
We cannot even replay Sonic 1, CD and 2 levels from the save files.
And save files doesn't even have the no save mode.
Sonic Origins Plus improved Origins in some ways
And in some ways no...
I enjoyed Amy and some additional content, that this expansion delivers
But the conclusion is kind of disappointing.
No other spin-off games, like Knuckles Chaotix and 3D Blast.
No additional content for Museum, such as commercials and trailers.
This is supposed to be the definitive way to play the Classic Sonic games
But, no really.
If you want the definitive way to play the classics, then go and play the Mega Collection Plus or other better collections.
For me, Origins Plus is okay.
Amo Sonic pero lo que le han hecho al 1 es insalvable, que tenga que actualizarse el juego una vergüenza y el contenido plus debería de venir en el disco, un desastre que en ps2 no daba fallos
