This game is as great as Captain Pike’s hair. If you’re ready to blink away three hours of your life in what feels like three minutes, Star Trek: Infinite is for you.
Star Trek: Infinite gives us a damn solid 4X experience doused in the rich history of the Star Trek universe, and with plenty of space to include more Deep Space Nine, Voyager and other quadrants of the galaxy through expansions. Even if you’re not a fan of the source material, it can still stand alone as a good experience which will only improve over time.
Star Trek: Infinite, acknowledging its compelling faction diversity and innovative Mission Tree. However, the overshadowing presence of persistent bugs and technical flaws leaves the game barely playable, leaving players frustrated and unable to fully enjoy the grand strategy experience.
Yes, you can send your starships out to discover new worlds and assist friendly nations, but the Stellaris warp drive that powers the game encourages conquest and expansion — an ambition totally out of step with the original show creator's vision. If Trekkies can stand that cognitive dissonance, they'll find a home in Star Trek: Infinite, but experienced grand strategy gamers might find it too familiar for comfort.
Having spent many hours on Infinite, I think I’ve seen all I need to see. Expansions and DLC might bring me back, but now we are talking about gating content behind another paywall. That sounds less enticing to me, especially when there is a more interesting mod available for free. Someone patiently waiting for new Star Trek games will definitely have some fun puzzling through Star Trek: Infinite, but I think I am probably going to go back over that New Horizon.
A deep and interesting Star Trek game that doesn’t quite scratch the strategy itch, but Trekkies will appreciate the chance to explore a new twist on a familiar universe. Still, I found myself itching for the depth of the very similar strategy powerhouse Stellaris.
A serviceable, sometimes-engaging official Star Trek version of Stellaris that makes sense for generic space war fans, but flounders when it comes to narrative logic and Trekkie authenticity.
I am little dismayed that paradox took features ripped features out of product I already bought and then presented these items back into a standalone game using same engine.
I played this for 6 hours then I asked for refund and I told developer why and they okayed my refund..
I mean its game but it brings nothing really new to stellaris it uses same stuff that is already in game, and it even puts things back in that were taken out which is biggest issue I already paid for these game features once, I just do not feel like I should have to pay for features that were in the product I originally paid for a second time.
I was reading some of issue about this on you tube also there was couple review sites talking about how features where stripped out game engine and then put back in, so I know it is not just me, and form reading other reviews on here it seems there couple other people who feel same way also.
I do have question or Meta Critic, says there is five positive reviews for this game in counter but I only see negative reviews when i pick see all reviews, when i pick see all positive reviews no positive reviews show up, not a single positive review shows up so where are all these positive reviews being kept if they are not being displayed on here ?
so I thought I would expand on my review, so I bought this game pre ordered it then I returned it then I bought it then I played it then I returned it.
I would have keep this game if it was a DLC expansion for stellaris that brought back all the game mechanics that I already paid for back into stellaris.
This game uses older stellaris engine that dates back to when there was two star trek mods on workshop for free, and the game had game features that include warp drives, cloaking, worm drive enignes.
paradox claimed they had to remove all these game features because no space RTS game could be balanced with these features in it.
this broke all the star trek mods which had large following over 200k sub scribes each.
Paradox then re licenses engine older engine that they claim is unbalanced for this game..
I feel that this game is selling me features I loved about stellaris that I already paid for back to me after they just got done removing them from the product I already bought.
I think what paradox should did was allow this game to be a paid DLC that would have added features back into stellaris where they came form to start with.
they could easily had put tech back in and then allowed star trek infante to be opened up from within stellaris as a spererate entitie
I would been okay with that as long as I got core game mechanics that I already paid for back into game i had original bought and if I would gotten a paid star trek Infinite mod out of it professional mod with deal that would been fine.
Instead, what happened is Paradox striped core features out of product I already paid for and then tried to re-sell them back to me as a standalone product, shame on you for stealing from me.
I bought this game then returned it after I realized that I already paid for these features once, in my stellaris game that they made.
so old stellaris engine had follow game mechanics in it, warp drive engines, worm hole drive engines, and cloaking drives.
along with two very good star trek mods that had big following 200K+ subscriber base.
so what did developer or paradox do, well they said that these core game mechanics make all real time stgy games unbalanced and unplayable unfair, so they stripped core features out of game engine so modders could no longer add them back in or use them also crippling all star trek mods that were based off of them and robing customer base of core game mechanics that where loved.
then they took the old engine and leased it for this game the old engine that came with core mechanics that they said were broken and unbalanced. there are words not mine.
sense they lied to me and robbed me of my game features that I already paid for and tried to resell them to me a second time as a standalone game I had to return this game and give it a low rating and my friends did the same.
who is to say that paradox will not do this Agin in future and just take core game mechanics out of star trek infinite that are popular remove them and sell them as a new standalone product?
I cannot condone this behavior so I could not keep this game and asked for my monies back.
I think if this game was a DLC for stellaris and put the game features back where they came from back into stellaris I would been fine with it.
they could had features back in the original product from where they came form that we all paid for all ready and then also provided us with a star trek infinite official mod that would been great.
instead, paradox took a product we already paid for strip features out of it under false pretense and then resold them to us again using same engine and game, as a diff standalone product. shame on you paradox.
