Baten Kaitos I & II are back for both the older and newer generation of players to enjoy in the Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster. What is new and improved? What is all the hype about among enthusiasts? Should you buy this title, wait for a sale or leave it be? Read all about it in this review for more information so you can decide.
Bandai Namco presents one of the most acclaimed niche RPGs on a console that favors this genre. Although the performance and quality of life improvements could have been better, the game stands out as a title that stands out for its unique combat, narrative, and music that will impact more than one player and that no fan of RPGs should be left out.
After almost 2 decades we receive 2 of the most underrated Jrpgs of the ps2-gc era.
Monolith, maybe the best first party company for Nintendo, bring us an excellent jrpg.
In an ideal world, the remasters probably would have worked better as proper remakes. Baten Kaitos and Origins’ pre-rendered backgrounds were gorgeous on the Gamecube, and they’re just as lovely now. Some aspects would have benefited from more improvement, though. Character animations, limited dialogue illustrations, awkward battle structures, and wonky localization weren’t great at the time and don’t hold up quite so well. Both games are still worth experiencing, but there are a few more hurdles to enjoying them than there should be.
Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster is a great opportunity to discover, or replay, two role-playing gems from the GameCube era. Although the visual improvement is evident, Bandai Namco could have done more, as translating Baten Kaitos Origins or polishing the technical hiccups. Even with that, both are great adventures, with a great combat system.
Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster are memorable JRPGs that can finally fully spread their wings in this remastered package. While the systems might cause early confusion no matter which entry you’re playing, they both develop into a masterful adventure. The added quality-of-life features made these titles approachable for any who wish to casually revisit the narrative or experience it for the first time. I’m glad these classics have graced a modern platform for fans, both new and old.
The Baten Kaitos games deserve better than this remaster gives them, but for new and returning players alike, it is still a great addition to any RPG fan’s Switch library. Hopefully, this collection isn’t the last we see of the Magnus-slinging series and is instead the beginning of a bright future ahead for the series.
I remember playing these 2 games on the gamecube. I still have both games. Baten kaitos remastered brought back the joy that i had from the gamecube games. For the most part the game runs smooth there is alittle frame issues from time to time. The battling in the game is as smooth as butter. Now lets get into the problem that alot of people has with this is the english being removed. Im one of those people who hates reading in video games and would like to hear the voices in english but with thos game i didnt mind the Japanese voice acting. The english dub was horrible on the gamecube verson. It was great in origins tho. But my personal opinion i dont have a issue with no english dub. If your a fan of baten kaitos get this game you will not be disappointed at all. If your new to the series and are fans of xenoblade the same people who made xenoblade made baten kaitos. Oh one last thing i like this port souch that i bough it digital and i bought it physical on playasia. If your on the fence about this game trust me you wont be disappointed if you buy this game.
A subpar remaster, and two of the worst JRPGs ever made. The only reason I'm giving this a 1 and not a 0 is because the story is somewhat decent (if you can disregard some serious plot holes and scenes that seem to be pulled from someone's drug-induced hallucinations), but the gameplay is horrendous beyond **** combat system is heavily reliant on RNG, and battles take forever to finish. The dungeons are a prime example of how to not design a game, with loads of backtracking, awful puzzles and game mechanics so frustrating they're likely to make your blood boil. Story progression is almost entirely based on trial and error during exploration, where you need to run around aimlessly and interact with more or less every single NPC and object in an area until you finally find the one thing the game wants you to interact with. The only clues you get are usually something along the lines of "It's somewhere in town", but sometimes you're not even told in which general area something is, so you'll have to search every nook and cranny of the world map until you eventually reach the right place. Once you've managed to pinpoint the target, you'll get a short story scene, and then the game asks you to find something else, forcing you to do the area search all over again to find the next item or person needed to progress further. This pattern repeats endlessly, so unless you somehow enjoy mindless timesinks, get ready to get annoyed and bored out of your mind. Simply put, playing these games feels like a tedious chore that you want to be over as soon as possible because you can quite literally feel the fun being drained from your body.
SummaryA long time ago, there was a great conflict between the evil god and the people. After a fierce battle, the people managed to seal off the evil god, but what was left behind was only a desolate land. The people thus chose to abandon the land and live in the sky.
