Never Stop Sneakin' is stealth action at its most pure and whimsical. [Issue #37 – January/February 2019, p. 21]
It's a game where stealth comes naturally for absolutely everyone, and is all the better for it. [Issue#315, p.114]
I dig so much of Never Stop Sneakin’. The aesthetic is beautifully PlayStation era. The soundtrack features absurd lyrics reminiscent of overwrought Metal Gear ballads. It distills the fun of stealth into an accessible analog stick or touch screen-controlled experience. The main drawback is that it leans too heavily on repeating similar experiences. As long as you can focus more on the critical path, it’s still a worthy game, but the charm and ingenuity start to fade when you see the same environment and setup for the nth time.
Much like National Lampoons, Never Stop Sneakin’ appeal is immediately obvious, but soon grows old and labourious.
Humble Hearts has another fun little game on its hands with Never Stop Sneakin'. It's far from perfect and lacks the variety in level and boss design that would make me want to keep coming back, but the fast run-based gameplay is addictive as hell, and I do love those blocky polygon character models.
Never Stop Sneakin’ tried to appeal to my nostalgia for the original Metal Gear Solid. Unfortunately, you can’t judge this book by its cover. Dodging enemy sight cones and building up a stealth combo is only compelling for a short while, and the lack of overall variety made me want to sneak away to play other games.
Sold as a Metal Gear Solid parody, Never Stop Sneakin' delivers mission after mission of some top down infiltration fun with retro visuals which clearly act as a strong homage to the PlayStation console. Strong as it can be within its first hours, the game runs short of ideas before we really expect it to, perhaps acting too generously too early to keep up with the genre.
