This game is genuinely amazing. The experience is life-changing and will change how you feel entirely. Some editing may be required in the game files if you want to experience all of the endings.
Also, the dev of the game is an absolutely amazing and fun to talk to person. Shirihan is a great, 10/10 for him too as a person.
Didn’t expect much from a kind of horror/creepy walking simulator, but HOLY **** this subverted any possible expectation I had for this game. The song (Mars landscape: moon set, btw), is incredible yet simple, as is this game. The best way to enjoy this game is putting your headphones, get a blanket, play with the lights off, and immerse yourself in this unforgettable experience. In its 1,5 hr playtime, it strike me more than some of the big budget long duration beasts of the gaming industry. One of the best indie games I’ve ever played, definitely recommended
Pros:
-Very good narrative
-Graphics and effects are nicely done
-The narrative will stick in your mind for a couple of days
-Levels are interesting and well made
-Genuinely scary at times
Cons:
-Walking speed is slow in some levels
While playing, I was thinking to myself: "Wow. this game is so boring, 3/10". And games that do cover these difficult topics have been made that are better, there is not another like this that will leave you wondering what the hell you just played.
When the Darkness Comes, is one of those games that is much more than that.
The way it is presented to us, has reminded me a lot Stanley Parable, but it is so much deep, more complex. And on each chapter you feel more deeply involved and more deeply despaired.
It is a surreal picture of the dark sides of the human mind, of the human emotions.
An unique experience, if you feel up to it.
SummaryWhen the Darkness comes is a walking simulator whose glitchy and dark tale tries to illustrate the hardships of depression and anxiety through a variety of imaginary digital landscapes.
