A very deep and engaging action adventure experience plenty of monsters to kill, objects to collect and characters to customize. A very addictive game for Wii U users.
  2. Mar 21, 2013
In terms of content this is definitely the ultimate Monster Hunter experience. The visuals can’t hide their age, though. The world still is harmonious and confronts you with truly impressive enemies, but a lot of animations and effects date back to the PS2 era. That doesn’t take away anything from the still motivating hunting and gathering that is easier to control than ever before.
  3. Apr 15, 2013
Aside from these niggling flaws, the game is bloody amazing, and easily the best instalment in the Monster Hunter series to date. I've got over 80 hours on my save file already, but I feel like I'm still scratching the surface.
  4. Mar 20, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a must-have purchase for anyone who likes challenging gameplay, big weapons, even bigger enemies, a hefty crafting system, and a satisfying cooperative experience.
  5. May 27, 2013
It’s a game for the fans and genre veterans, who will find hours worth of fun in this title with which to consume their lives. Everyone else though, might be happier getting their RPG kicks from a different source.
  6. Mar 18, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is the definitive version of the Monster Hunter 3 collection, blending together elements from more recent instalments into a cross-platform package.
  7. Mar 20, 2013
While the visuals are far from stunning and the online lacks any sort of host migration, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is one of the best and most rewarding experiences in a long time, and will certainly keep you busy for a while.
  8. Mar 22, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate makes for a very solid gaming experience. The game offers up so much to do and see through a massive amount of quests, crafting elements, customizations and a compelling online mode. Prepare your day-to-day schedules accordingly for this one, but please be mindful of the control issues the game tends to have.
  9. Mar 18, 2013
With some truly breathtaking battles, great online play and the promise of free challenges to come, Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate is just what Nintendo's fledging console needs.
  10. Mar 19, 2013
It’s ostensibly an action game, but much more slowly paced than that term would suggest. It’s not quite an RPG either, although there’s levelling and grinding involved. And while its world isn’t open – each area is segmented into numbered zones – it’s a sandbox game in every other respect. Guild quests offer a skeletal structure, but there’s no pressure to stick to it.
  11. Mar 18, 2013
Everything is of a piece, whole and entire, as if the developers set out to make exactly this game and succeeded. That doesn't mean it's flawless. It only means that, sometimes, it feels like it.
  12. Mar 22, 2013
In the end, it all depends on what kind of game you are looking for. If you want sprawling, open worlds, bustling with life and interesting inhabitants and their stories, Monster Hunter has nothing to give you. However, if you like the idea of your character as the immovable center of a game's universe, one that's yours alone to perfect and hone – and the notion of interacting with others to hunt down some really gigantic beasts, then what are you waiting for? Go ahead and let the hunt begin!
  13. Mar 17, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is definitely one of the best Wii U exclusives. The gameplay is deep, the number of missions is huge and thanks to the online feature it's the best version of the third generation of Monster Hunter. If only Capcom had taken advantage of the console capabilities, we would be standing in front of a masterpiece.
  14. Mar 25, 2013
This Ultimate version is one of the best in the series and a reference for future games.
  15. Mar 21, 2013
Ultimate has more character classes, areas, monsters and weapons which were not present on Monster Hunter Tri for Wii.
  16. Mar 28, 2013
This is truly not a game for everyone. But if you got the patience and commitment that’s required of you to get past the first seven hours of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, this will be an insanely addictive and rewarding game, especially if you go on hunts with friends. It still has a lot of flaws, but the core gameplay is awesome enough to compensate for these.
  17. Apr 5, 2013
In order to fully experience and enjoy Monster Hunter, there is a considerable amount of commitment required. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate does little to ease in new players or entice those that aren’t already fans. However, old vets and fair-weather fans alike will find an enriched experience with a hefty amount of new content. Coupled with the online capabilities and graphics overhaul, this is well deserving of the title “ultimate.”
  18. Mar 21, 2013
Whether you're playing online or solo in your home village, Monster Hunter exhilarates and excites with the same kind of thrill you'd get from climbing a mountain or conquering a fear you never knew you had. It might not be the prettiest game, but it succeeds in tying your emotions to the action on screen, whether that means dashing your excitement in a narrow defeat or encouraging you to pick a bigger fight after an illustrious victory.
  19. Apr 2, 2013
While Tri has never been my favorite Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite still holds that honor) there's no question that Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate is a huge step up from its predecessor.
  20. Apr 21, 2013
Capcom’s Monster Hunter team seems to be well aware of what their fans want, and with the multitude of improvements found in this remastered edition of MH3, newcomers have a very good reason to hop on the bandwagon and start enjoying this great franchise.
  21. Apr 4, 2013
Even if you played the original Tri on your Wii, it's worth hunting again in this beautiful and immense world that Capcom has created.
  22. Apr 8, 2013
Very few games have Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate's depth. It's a survival simulator and one of the best co-op multiplayer experiences on consoles. The lack of matchmaking and a decent explanation regarding the game's mechanics are only minor gripes. This is the best the Wii U has to offer.
  23. Mar 19, 2013
While it will certainly satisfy fans of the series, Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate certainly isn't for everyone. The cycle of gathering resources and completing quests can become a little stale and monotonous. Thankfully, a robust multiplayer mode makes the overall experience more rewarding and fun to play.
  24. 70
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate offers the loot party of loot parties, but in the end, it somewhat lacks in variation.
  25. Mar 21, 2013
I don't think it is any secret that Monster Hunter is one of my favorite gaming franchises, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is hands-down the absolute best Monster Hunter yet. There are literally hundreds of hours of stuff to do in this game, and the upgrades from Monster Hunter Tri make this an even more tantalizing treat.

    Apr 10, 2013
A game with considerable bite and a hulking frame that dwarfs the competition. [May 2013, p.64]
  27. May 14, 2013
An excellent old school RPG with attractive well worked-out crafting along with the entertaining monster hunting, which makes sense even for Monster Hunter Tri owners and fans as a legitimate "new edition" because it has plenty of new content. However, you may criticize here and there in-game camera troubles and strong storyline absence.
  28. Mar 19, 2013
It's easily the best Monster Hunter game so far, and while it would be nice to see a console sequel with more up-to-date visuals and all-new locations, Ultimate is an great entry into the Wii U catalog.
  29. Mar 18, 2013
Featuring over 300 quests in total and a plethora of things to collect, monsters to defeat, and lands to explore, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a meaty title worth sinking your teeth into. Its high learning curve may dissuade some players inexperienced with the series, but with enough patience and resourcefulness, you’ll be able to get through any problem and feel proud that you accomplished it. If you’re looking for a great reason to bring out your Wii U and play and online RPG with friends, look no further.
  30. Mar 25, 2013
The only real complaint I can file against the game, is that once again I do not care for underwater combat.
  31. Apr 29, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate takes the already great Monster Hunter Tri and perfects it. The graphics might be a bit dated, but the gameplay stands for itself: a massive, engrossing quest that is a lot of fun solo and an absolute blast in multiplayer. Put in the time to master the learning curve, and the hunt will richly reward you.
  32. Mar 26, 2013
But if you’ve been craving an action game which offers up the unique satisfaction of defeating big, truly difficult monsters and carving a new set of armor out of their salvaged skull, get this game now. You won’t regret it.
  33. Apr 11, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U delivers an authentic and fascinating world to explore. The many different items can easily trigger a serious collection mania and its motivating quests and the variety of monsters and locations make the game a recommendable choice.

The fast pace, the offbeat humour, the was a bit like being trapped in a giant Pachinko machine, which would go some way towards why the Japanese like it so much. [Issue#235]
  35. Mar 17, 2013
The monsters are stunning, the fights can be incomparably exhilarating, and the 3DS and Wii U connectivity is really impressive – even if the online infrastructure is still rather archaic.
  36. Mar 20, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is strongly... Japanese. It requires patience, time and skill, and its steep learning curve can be too hard for the average gamer. However, the reward for understanding its mechanics is huge, and the game is able to offer countless hours of offline and online entertainment. It's an excellent deal even if you already played Monster Hunter Tri on Wii.
  37. Mar 19, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is ideal for Wii U-owners who are up for a challenge in which they can easily lose dozens of hours. The game doesn’t look exceptionally well, but the strong use of Gamepad, the improved controls and the prospect of Capcom supporting the game with extra challenges and missions, make this final version of Monster Hunter 3 an excellent game.
  38. Apr 15, 2013
Massive and difficult, but rewarding for those who endure to master it. It's a bit more streamlined than its predecessors, but apart from that not much has changed. A bit too repetitive for its own good.
  39. Mar 29, 2013
Monster Hunter takes for granted a lot of extracurricular effort on behalf of its players. How much extra research are you willing to do on a game’s systems before you expect to have fun with it? How many nonsensical, anachronistic hoops are you willing to jump through just for a slight taste of what this game will hopefully become in ten years’ time?
  40. Mar 18, 2013
Good adaptation and much new content. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate uses both screens and capabilities of 3DS and Wii U, but it's the same hilarious and addictive game from Wii with many extras. The HD doesn't look good and retains some mistakes.
  41. Mar 17, 2013
It’s not much more than an HD update, but if you and your friends have the perseverance this is one of gaming’s most uniquely challenging co-op experiences.
  42. Mar 18, 2013
Despite being an updated port of the episode on Wii, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate delivers a fresh and unique experience thanks to a smart use of the gamepad, new content and cross-usability between Wii U and 3DS. Not a game changer but the best way for a launch window title to forget some out-of-date visuals.
  43. Mar 17, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is the perfect name choice, as this takes the already exceptional Wii title and adds a daunting amount of new content and a HD sheen. It's also not a game for everyone, and those that go in with eyes closed may be in for a nasty surprise at the level of commitment and skill required.
  44. Apr 24, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U is an excellent introduction to the series, easing you into its systems and ensuring that you are well-equipped for the challenges to come.
  45. 80
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a game of tremendous depth, but also one of tremendous reward. Should you decide to give it a fair amount of time and put in a bit of work, you may find it one of the most exciting experiences available on Wii U.
  46. Mar 22, 2013
Far more than just a port or a re-release, Ultimate expands every aspect of Monster Hunter Tri to leap straight to the top of the food chain. A massively rewarding test of true skill and one of the best co-op games out there.
  47. Jun 8, 2013
If you’re looking for something deep and significant, something that will eat away 100+ hours of your gaming life and still offer more, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is here and waiting.
  48. Delivers a deafening roar of an RPG adventure, but its bark is louder than its bite. The beast might've learned a few new tricks, but it can't hide its age.

    Apr 15, 2013
The ultimate Monster Hunter is really what Wii U needed right now. It may not be the prettiest game on the block, but damn if it isn't the most addictive. When the clock is 3 am, and you're wondering whether you should do another hour long hunt, you know you're hooked. [Apr 2013]
  50. Mar 20, 2013
With over 40 hours on my first character, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of what Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate has to offer, and I'm eager to keep hunting.
  51. The Wii U version of the game isn’t perfect, however. The bigger screen and 1080p HD graphics do add to the flair of the game — the textures are redone for the more powerful Wii U, while most of the game models are the same — but no one would mistake them for something that wasn’t also designed to be played on a handheld. The framerate is much better and, most importantly, you can play online with other players.
  52. Mar 22, 2013
The Best Monster Hunter on home consoles. Plenty of weapons, monsters and quests make this chapter the perfect one. Now we just need a new game developed for the next gen consoles.
  53. Mar 20, 2013
The Monster Hunter series continues to be brilliant but a little impenetrable, despite efforts to remedy that very issue. How much you’ll get out of the game really depends on what you’re willing to put in - if you’re short on spare time or patience, maybe give it a miss. But if you like the sound of really learning a game for once instead of just drifting through it, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is essential.
  54. Apr 1, 2013
While grinding and idiosyncrasies will get to some, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a great game. It shines particularly bright when played [in] multiplayer.
  55. Mar 21, 2013
This a decent RPG on the Wii U, but it's also a little bit outdated. The graphics are ugly and the controls doesn't work so perfectly.

The first Monster Hunter game I ever played was Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii and I loved it so much that I invested around 100 hours offline and over 500 hours online. This game is almost identical to the Wii version except it has updated HD graphics, added maps and 70+ monsters. There are 12 different weapon types and every hunter has a weapon type that fits them best. And each and every monster has weapons and armors that can be forged from their materials that you carve from them in Hunt quests or Capture quests. The armor and weapon upgrade system is very addicting and you will find yourself crafting new armor sets and using different armor sets for a better advantage against certain monsters. This game is challenging and it has a huge learning curve, but once you get past that, Monster Hunter will be one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences you could ever have. It's easily the best multiplayer experience available on the WiiU or in the gaming industry in general.. It's so thrilling to go on long hunts with friends and it feels like such an accomplishment after you take down a monster that you've been battling for 30 minutes. The controls feel great and you can choose between the WiiU Gamepad, Classic Controller Pro, or the WiiU Pro Controller. Overall, I know that I will invest hundreds of hours into this great game. Even though this game isn't perfect, it still deserves a 10/10 in my opinion. For many people, this game is the sole reason for purchasing a WiiU. If you own a WiiU, buy it now. Full Review »

I findAs my first foray into the series I was pleasantly surprised! It shares many similarities with action RPGs like Dark Souls or Fable. I find the game to start off quite slowly, taking anywhere up too 5 hours to hook the player in; however, the game becomes quite fun from there on out. This game is a pack rats dream. There is so much to explore, collect, kill, combine, and just simply learn about the game. One downside, if you can call it that, is that there isn't much of a story much of it is presented in cutscenes of new locations or animals to hunt.

This game isn't just the best Action RPG on the Wii U but it's a game that others without a Wii U will pine over.
