  • Summary: The clock has stopped around the turn of the 19th century, and humankind has prematurely blown itself to bits. The remaining scraps are huddling in caves beneath the surface, and steam-powered robots have taken over the Wild West.

The core of Steamworld Dig is a simple one, yet with the charm & wit it possesses really hooks you in.

But seriously, this is an ideal game for this platform, and great to just pick up and play at any time.
  3. This gem is worth picking up again, even if it's just to gawk at the HD revamp. [Issue#116, p.90]

The game is addictive and a lot of fun. What the Wii U offers over and above the others is that you can play it both on the TV or solely on the gamepad.

If you already own it, I wouldn’t recommend picking this up even if you are fancying a second playthrough and own it elsewhere (why waste the money on a game you already have?) but for first timers, go for it. It’s fun, well made, and hopefully if it does well, we’ll see some sequels set in their weird post-human no-electricity world.

Minor annoyances - more noticeable after four ports of the game - prevent the game from ever reaching indie perfection, but this is an experience not to be missed.

Even without offering a reason for veteran players to return, SteamWorld Dig for Wii U is a great opportunity for those that still haven't experienced this good game from Image & Form.

When watching a video about other ports of the game I believed that this would be another bland, and tasteless addition to the Nintendo e shop. However upon purchasing this game I was very surprised at how smooth the game ran and the feel. As a first timer this game was incredibly good to me. It was very addictive, however once you finish the game there is not much replay value leaving you wanting more power-ups and gadgets. The game does not really have enough content to make up for its eight dollar price tag. I received this on sale for less than five dollars. Expand

But it starts off very slow. So slow, in fact, that I was worried that digging and collecting minerals was all there was to the game. But as I went further into the game, I grabbed some upgrades and traversed some well-designed platforming sections, and it felt really nice. Quite a short game if you're just looking to finish it, and not too much longer if you aim to find every secret and mineral there is. But SteamWorld Dig is still a pretty good game. Definitely worth a purchase if you like to explore and have a bit of platforming action. Expand
