May 30, 2014The Amazing Spider-Man 2 adds too many half-baked ideas to the original game's elegant framework. The result is a game that is half good, half frustrating, and all tedious. Just about every good idea in this game is held back by something that isn't quite finished or just plain doesn't work.

May 7, 2014Is this game as good as the last one? Unfortunately, no, and I can say why for a number of reasons. Firstly, while the graphics are good, theIs this game as good as the last one? Unfortunately, no, and I can say why for a number of reasons. Firstly, while the graphics are good, the pop-in is dreadful and frequent (though buildings thankfully remain untextured for only a fraction of a second). I have mixed feelings about the Hero or Menace system. On paper, it sounds unique but it falls just short in the fact that there is no real incentive to stay in the Hero bar unless you just want the in-game Task Forces off your back. It would have been far more innovative to create multiple endings and tie it in with this system, say getting a bad ending if you're too far into the Menace bar.
The story, while interesting, is sadly convoluted for the same reason people say Spider-Man 3 is: there's too many villains. There's Shocker, Kingpin, Black Cat, Kraven, the Green Goblin, Electro, and Carnage. Had they removed Electro and Green Goblin by perhaps making this game take place after the film, there would be more time to focus on the other villains and develop them better (maybe even have multiple battles with them). However, there is still much to enjoy in this game. Despite what I just said about there being too many villains, it was still nice to see them all, Kraven and Carnage in particular (as well as another brilliant cameo from Stan Lee himself). Like most Spider-Man games, there's a lot to unlock from audio recordings to readable comics to (best of all) alternate costumes. These new games based on the new films can also be credited for combining two elements from Shattered Dimensions: stylish combat and interesting stealth segments.
There's always something else for you to do in the game, and while I would give the game more like a 7.5 if the rating system let you give decimal scores, I still think this game is worth playing at some point. Maybe after a price drop or if you find a used copy. Just don't go into it expecting the next Arkham City.… Expand

However visuals jump back and forth from higher quality Xb1 style textures occasionally; to mostly year 1 360 graphics and ps2 level.... But the story is epic and the game overall is too....
Some repetition occur with some crimes, but most are still fun to complete (though not all of them, some however do change over time).
Crimes/Recurring Open World events include: break-ins, hostage car chases, fires, injured citizens, police standoffs, and bombsquad activities. The car chases feel like Ps4 exclusive type of cutscene games, i recommend avoiding these as they feel like one and done activities.
The good/bad system is more like a GTA 5 police system. Only the twist is, if you don't help any citizens in need, the police turn on you. At first its easy and seems questionable, but it actually gets harder, and proves to make the open world feel slightly move alive. However, sometimes the "good" level drains quite quickly due to some crimes expiring quickly.... Best to pace how many side crimes you complete, and just treat the system as a neat addition that makes the world a bit more challenging here and there....
You can also spray negative news images on the lower ground, to avoid the wanted/bad levels getting any worse once active...
Gamepad or Pro Controller works well, Pro Controller suits those that are used to Xbox/PS4 type of controllers. Gamepad allows you to tap a waypoint when paused, but its not essential.
Sidequests in game include: Russian hideouts with hidden costumes, Phototaking within missions and photographing evidence in the open world, an arcade game based around spiderman, collecting comics (equivalent to the Saints Row 4 type of orbs/ golden flying robots ) and Webslinging Races on ground level and higher up...
In game costumes have in game perks, switching up is highly recommend once they have reached their max levels...
Alot of fun on Wii U. If you only like graphics, this might not be for you as it jumps up and down, but for an open world style game, theres alot of fun within this particular game.
For a game with mixed graphics, it actually runs quite well on the system, with some longer loads here and there.… Expand

It is more horrible than the first game! There's nothing to do, and the game is repetitive. You lose Hero Status just for not trying to stop any crimes. And it's one of those games where you get addicted to it as long as you didn't beat the story yet. The graphics and frame rate is pretty good, but don't buy this game!… Expand
