  • Summary: EA has created a unique character of the celebrated Brazilian International soccer star that is playable in FIFA Soccer 08 on Wii. The Wii-exclusive Ronaldinho hosts a game mode designed and created exclusively for Wii called Footii Party with Ronaldinho. With this mode, EA introduces unique party games - including Table Soccer and Shoot Off – where you can play as your self-created Mii character to unlock Ronaldinho and take on the champ. Each Footii Party game is created as a multiplayer, social experience designed to engage and entertain fans of all ages. The game's FreeMotion controls help level the playing field for all players and turns FIFA Soccer 08 on Wii into a physical, social activity. It also provides gamers with an authentic soccer experience with more control. It's easy to pick-up and play and with the in-game Soccer Academy you can learn basic and advanced controls in more than 30 interactive tutorials. Each lesson teaches you how to master the FreeMotion controls and perform all the necessary movements to dominate on the pitch. [Electronic Arts] Expand

  1. If you're after a 'serious' football game on the Wii you could do a heck of a lot worse than FIFA 08. If you had concerns about the controls, don't worry - it works. [Dec 2007, p.82]
  2. The on-field play is actually pretty good, forgiving, of course, the standard stumbling points for sports games, like repetitive commentary.
  3. Overall this is a great little package, even though it is one that feels like it won't be truly perfected until next year.
  4. The control system is the biggest drawback and may be unfixable, due to the very nature of the nunchuk and the remote. However, families that just want to introduce their kids to the world of simulated football may find much to like, with the easy family play option.
  5. A case of unnecessary-motion-controls spoiling a perfectly average football sim. [Dec 2007, p.56]
  6. Patience and perseverance are required. [Dec 2007, p.]
  7. FIFA 08 on Wii is a resounding miss. With the controls lacking, multi-platform gamers have little reason to purchase this version, and Wii-only owners will have to wait for something better.

Suprising Depth, fantastic controls. I'm amazed at how great this is, it looked very cartoony to me before I actually played it. Best Nintendo Baseball game to date. Expand

At first this game may feel weak and lifeless. Yes it is a tired port with no manager mode and yes the controlls can feel hard at times. But give this game a few days/weeks and it kicks in. Everything falls nicely into place, with wii extras and a very good online mode. Expand

Clunky, touchy, unresponsive controls verge on being broken. Maybe I just don't have the patience for the steep learning curve. Great dept with all the players and teams. Online is a good idea but there is a lag that makes it unplayable. Expand

I am returning it. I don't get the feeling I'm controlling the players. The defenders literally jump out of the way of the forward, but then someone manages to get the ball away. i guess you need a lot of practice. Maybe it's the wii controls, but the play is better with proEvolution. If you want to play a season, you can pick your team and just transfer anyone you want to be on it. You only play maybe a five minute game and if you get bored of playing, the computer will generate an "random" score for you. the foosball table mini-game is kind of cool. unsatisfying. Expand
