Oct 22, 201085A Shadow's Tale is an engaging and enjoyable platform game, with a nice artistic direction and a good number of original elements that fit effectively into the gameplay.
-
Oct 22, 201084You'll remember A Shadow's Tale for years to come. [Oct 2010, p.63]
-
Oct 22, 201082Lost in Shadow is a fantastic addition to the Wii library . A good game from Hudson Soft.
-
Dec 16, 201280While perhaps not a ground-breaking addition to the Wii library, A Shadow's Tale had the potential to be more than what it ended up being. Nevertheless, what was given is still quite a good experience that will delight Wii owners craving for an original concept that strives to convey a unique atmosphere to its players through a well designed soundtrack and visual style.
-
Oct 19, 201180The basic idea behind A Shadow's Tale is quite intriguing, but the game design fails to drain the main portion of its drive. The game plays it's strongest hand in the opening quarter and unfortunately rest of this trek is repetition of the few good ideas. If the contents were compressed and the game sold via Wiiware, the result would definitely be an instant classic. [June 2011]
-
Feb 25, 201180It takes time to gather momentum, but A Shadow's Tale is worth stepping out of the dark for.
-
Jan 7, 201180If you can keep your expectations in check, accepting that Lost in Shadow is essentially an old school Prince of Persia-inspired game with a clever twist, you will find it worth your time to try it out.
-
Dec 19, 201080It's a creative and distinctive adventure in terms of both graphics and gameplay--rare qualities in this day and age--making this title well worth experiencing for yourself. [Jan 2011, p.89]
-
May 17, 201178Lost in Shadow is a unique, rewarding and well crafted experience.
-
Feb 25, 201175I'm worried that I'm making Lost In Shadow sound bad. It's not bad. It's actually rather good. It's just nothing terribly new.
-
Jan 10, 201175Poor pacing almost derails this imaginative platformer, but a variety of clever puzzles in the second half of the game make it worth sticking with to the end.
-
Jan 5, 201175Interesting gameplay mechanics, sadly repeated over and over. Despite that, Lost in Shadow is a fresh and new experience, that every Wii user lloking for soemthing original should at least try.
-
Jan 4, 201175Ultimately I can't recommend Lost In Shadow to everyone. The puzzles and combat are too difficult for children (even on easy mode), and platforming fans will be put off by the unresponsive controls.
-
Jan 4, 201175Lost in Shadow is a great experience that's spread a bit too thin. Though the core ideas behind the game are remarkable, the game's length and awkward pacing early on will frustrate some and might make others outright bored.
-
Oct 22, 201073This starts out as an ingenious platformer but samey levels mean it gets stale quickly.
-
Feb 4, 201170With such terrible pacing, you might not want to continue. But if you do, you'll be treated to a solid, if underdeveloped platformer. Patience is a virtue.
-
Jan 17, 201170Lost In Shadow overstays its welcome, which is disappointing. If the game had been less ambitious in scale and more ambitious in content, it would perhaps be one of the best games in recent memory. Instead, it falls just short of something truly great.
-
Jan 16, 201170What could have been another must-have Wii 2D platformer, A Shadow's Tale is still worth your time as long as you keep your expectations in check.
-
Jan 11, 201170A Shadow's Tale can feel a little discouraging at first, but those who persevere will find that it eventually hits its stride, piling on one idea after another until it evolves into one of the cleverest puzzlers on Wii. [Christmas 2010, p.124]
-
Jan 4, 201170Lost in Shadow comes together to form a unique package and is often inspired in its complex play of light and shadow. It's a fun game that sometimes frustrates, but also really works your brain's capacity for spatial awareness.
-
Jan 4, 201170Thankfully, the designs of the bulk of Lost in Shadow's platforming trials are clever enough, providing a mostly fun and memorable experience, if not an emotionally empty one.
-
Jan 4, 201170It can be disappointing, but it's easier to view Lost in Shadow is an earnest effort with few great ideas rather than a fabrication forged of influence and familiarity.
-
Jan 3, 201170Lost in Shadows is the classic game for passionate gamers. Like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, this game isn't perfect, but the great visual style, the perfect atmosphere and the high quality of the main concept, are enough to turn a simply good title in a valuable piece for any collection.
-
Oct 28, 201070A good game which had some elements to become outstanding, although it should not be discarded too soon, as it is a game very different to the rest of the Wii library, and will be liked by classic gameplay lovers, specially for its platforming and puzzle elements.
-
It's inconsistent and never quite fulfils its potential but this is far more inspired than it first appears and one of the best Wii games of the year.
-
Jan 11, 201160As I trudged through hour after hour of Lost in Shadow's adventure, a singular, pervasive thought cycled through my head: I wished this game were shorter.
-
Jan 7, 201160Fans of platformers with a good deal of patience will discover some of the great ideas strewn about Lost in Shadow (most of which occur in the final hours), but most will probably want to quit before they get there.
-
Jan 5, 201160The laid-back nature of the game, combined with the use of color and lounge music ensure a relaxed experience. But the easy puzzles and overfamiliar gameplay make it a little bit too relaxed. It's a shame, because the art direction of this game made us think we'd be playing something special.
-
Jan 4, 201160It feels like a decent downloadable game trying desperately to stretch itself into a full retail suit that doesn't quite fit. As it is, its joys are like its formless protagonist: ephemeral.
-
Dec 21, 201060That twist, however, is the root of the game's disappointments, hinting at something beyond a typical platform game, yet leaving players to go through the genre's familiar motions - just in the shade. [Dec 2010, p.91]
-
Oct 22, 201060A Shadow's Tale tries too hard to be subtle and artsy; qualities that Ico pulled off so effortlessly. It's endearing to an extent, but the experience as a whole is marred by poor visuals, uninspiring level design and dated platforming.
-
Oct 22, 201060Quotation forthcoming.
-
Feb 2, 201155Director George Lucas famously said that a "special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing." A special effect without strong gameplay is also a boring thing, which is Lost in Shadow's greatest fault.
-
Jan 13, 201150Lost in Shadow is unfortunately true to its name. The player will feel lost in a sea of mediocre gameplay that doesn't have a foreseeable end in sight.
-
Oct 22, 201050There's nothing sadder than a great idea wasted, but it's no longer enough to simply come up with a concept and let it do the heavy lifting for the entire length of a game.
-
Jan 13, 201145Lost in Shadow commits what I consider to be gaming's cardinal sin: taking a great idea and using its originality up in a bad game. This is a real waste.
-
Mar 10, 201140As much as I may admire the concept, I really can't recommend Lost in Shadow to anyone except those who crave simplistic, repetitive gameplay and an unnecessarily bloated running time.
-
Oct 24, 201040With its refreshing pitch and mystical atmosphere, A Shadow's Tale seemed like an original game. But if this innovative side is well expressed through the visual, it's not in the gameplay, which is inspired by a variety of other existing games, but without any inspiration to merge all this in a clever way. A Shadow's Tale main flaw remains its lack of pace, variety... and fun. A game that can catch our eye very quickly, but can't keep our interest up very long.
