Here's a game that proves with smart play mechanics and a beautiful visual style that developers can do so much with 43 megabytes, let alone the disc space available for full Wii games. The game's got a fresh gameplay hook, mostly tight controls, surprisingly clean and polished graphics and perfectly peaceful melodies.
  2. LostWinds is brimming with potential, but the result leaves a lot to be desired.
  3. LostWinds is a gem that shouldn't get lost in the current glut of Wii titles.
  4. LostWinds is a solid WiiWare title. For game adventurers, it's certainly well-worth the money and the experience.
  5. LostWinds is a great example of what can be achieved on WiiWare. By combining a few simple gesture-based controls within a tightly focused platform-puzzling framework, Frontier has created a mini-masterpiece at the first attempt.

This is the breakout, must-buy hit that WiiWare needed to justify its existence. LostWinds is a beautiful and unique exploration-based platformer that takes full and natural advantage of the Wii's control setup.
  7. At about one-fifth of the price and length of a full-scale platformer, it's pretty, polished and fun. LostWinds is one of the most recommendable downloadable games from WiiWare.
  8. 75
LostWinds is a solid, charming little platformer, and it's a really promising start for the WiiWare line.
  9. A downloadable title that, idea-wise, puts many full releases to shame. [Aug 2008, p.76]
  10. Despite the unfortunate length of LostWinds, it is a remarkably good game, an adventure with broad appeal that takes a simple idea and brings it to elegant fruition.
  11. Whether it's through the broad strokes of the brilliantly judged puzzling and flawless control or via the delicate flecks which make up the finer detail – try playing around with the background scenery to see just how much Enril can mess about with – the sheer joy of playing LostWinds is undeniable.
  12. There is a playfulness to LostWinds that will surely extend its playtime beyond the bounds of narrative. [July 2008, p.95]
  13. It's simply a solid addition to the inaugural batch of WiiWare launch titles that tries a few new things with some uninspiring results.
  14. One of the finest, most confident Metroidvania games we’ve seen in years. [Aug 2008, p.116]
  15. If you own a Wii you owe it to yourself to give LostWinds a whirl, even though you'll be finished before you've really began.
  16. LostWinds reeks of wasted potential.

LostWinds is a great example of what can be done with the Wii's motion based interface. In fact, it outshines many of the more expensive, bigger budget, retail games available on the system.
  18. LostWinds might not be quite as revolutionary in terms of play control as some had hoped, but it does manage to bring some very new and innovative gameplay ideas to the platforming genre and that's definitely a step in the right direction.
  19. LostWinds is short, but it's worth the price of 1000 Wii Points. More important is that the game plays like dream, when it comes to controls and visuals. It's simple but hits its target. They should make more of these games on the console.
  20. It's a marvelous little game which everyone should play, but with the caveat that it ends abruptly and will have you passionately craving more when it’s done.
  21. An unforgettable experience and a lot more rewarding than many other games.
  22. LostWinds isn't something that will impress friends or provide hours of replay, but it's an enjoyable and enjoyably discrete experience that made me glad I downloaded it.
  23. A joyous little platformer that show how WiiWare should be done, but it's all over too soon. [July 2008, p.80]
  24. The biggest compliment in spite of our criticisms is that LostWinds leaves you wanting more and this is a rare commodity on the Nintendo Wii.
  25. Feels like a real-deal Wii title, so a purchase is a real no-brainer. [Aug 2008, p.71]
  26. I doubt it’ll get much talk time for “hardcore” gamers. It is a fun game, and it is a steal at 1000 Wii points. If you’re looking for a fun game that’s easy to start playing and the family would enjoy you can’t go wrong with this game.
  27. While a few faults may hold back the score from being perfect, LostWinds is a refreshing and almost nostalgic experience that will leave a player excited, but still asking for more.
  28. Ultimately, though, Lost Winds is a wonderful little game, and a great promise of what’s to come.
  29. It's a great buy for 10 dollars. It's fun, addictive, fluent, beautiful, and all around a good time.
  30. Fresh, quirky and original – and better still, only seven quid. What are you waiting for?
  31. With charming graphics and a great control scheme, this title is a premiere example of WiiWare titles that are all but cheap hand-me-downs. Controlling your character by manipulating the wind is great fun and easy to understand. This is a short experience though, easily being beatable in one sitting. No replay value whatsoever lowers the score of an otherwise great title that is definitely worth it's price tag.
  32. None of this will bother kids, who'll dig the game's ease, the non-threatening boss, and the chance to actually finish a game that's a fraction as long as say, Okami.

    This really is a mini-masterpiece.
  34. It may seem like an example of how a game can stand out by being the biggest fish in a small pond, but even when compared to similar titles on other consoles, LostWinds holds up.
  35. LostWinds is a remarkable game that absolutely deserves to be experienced.
  36. In terms of longevity, LostWinds is no hurricane, but its quality is as refreshing as a cool breeze on a hot summer's day. Simply magical.
  37. A stellar start to the WiiWare's catalog, LostWinds sports great production values, charming atmosphere and delivers a calm, relaxing experience that makes good use of the Wii remote's pointer controls.
  38. The disappointment in its length is a testament to how good it is. [Issue#24, p.25]

It is a side scrolling platformer at it's heart, with a unique controll scheme. The use of the wii remote and nunchuk are used to create a new vibe in an old genre, the nunchuk controls a young boy, the wii remote pointer is used to control a wind spirit. The duality of this system exceeds the some of it's parts as you explore the 3 to 4 hour adventure, leaving you wanting more and there will be more to this story. For the price of $10 or 1000 wii points, the entertainment value is very high. Developers should take note, players should pay to play as this is gifted game with a simple spirit, here's hoping it grows. Full Review »

The place youIt's definitely worth the money, but it is pretty short, the puzzles aren't very hard, and the final boss is a joke. The place you fight the final boss makes it seem like they were going to make multiple stages of the boss fight in different spots, but they didn't. Maybe if you collect all of the collectable items then the final boss is different, I don't know as far as I can tell they were pointless. Full Review »
