  1. Inferior play mechanics and a shoddy framerate limit the appeal of this year's Wii version, despite the nearly complete feature set and satisfying batting mechanic. [Apr 2009, p.81]

While I was pleased to see trading cards introduced in 2K9 and I think that making batting tougher was the right thing to do despite the fact that it makes the game tougher to pick up and dive right into, I was disappointed that two aspects of the game that needed to be addressed in a glaring way were left untouched – graphics and online play.
  3. Despite my disappointment with its lack of progress, MLB 2K9 is a solid game of baseball. [Apr 2009, p.85]
  4. MLB 2K9 for the Wii is still a flawed distortion of baseball, but it's definitely a better bet than its Xbox 360 and PS3 cousins.
  5. Plenty of Wii games have embraced a "gameplay over graphics" approach, providing a compelling gameplay experience despite looking like the bottom of a shoe. MLB 2K9 provides neither, and it doesn't even seem to try to.

This is the best baseball game on the wii...ur...I mean only baseball game on the wii. I will agree the graphics need work....I will agree the presentation (especially the menus and generic grey box card earnings) needs to be fixed....I will not agree on the gameplay. The players do not double clutch if you press the direction of the base before they get the ball...think ahead and the player plays like he thinks ahead...a very good addition to a baseball sim. Baserunning is great due to the fact that you can not steal successfully 80 percent of the time like you could in MVP Baseball...This game is challenging...even on pro mode...and that alone makes it great! Sims are realistic and the gameplay is smooth...This game is easily worth the price of admission. Full Review »

Simply the best baseball game for the wii...oh...I mean the only one. I will agree to the presentation being very poor...graphics, cards earning announcements interupting the noise of a walk off homerun(this is the most annoying), and 1998 menus. I will agree the lack of online is a bad choice...even though most people will play Madden or some other game that does not take an hour to play, when they venture online. It is nice to pause baseball and come back later...can not do that online. I will disagree on the rest...The batting, fielding, and pitching are all well above average...and the difficulty should make you appreciate the game more...and for a much longer amount of time. Baserunning is nice...nice because I can't steal second and third with half of my team as I can in all other baseball games to this point. The stats are more realistic in sims and I can't hit 5 homeruns every game...the gameplay is much more enjoyable knowing that I can lose each game...If you want a baseball game on the wii...the 50 dollars is well worth it.
