  • Summary: MX vs ATV kicks it up a notch and shifts into high gear as the best selling offroad franchise returns. MX vs ATV’s legendary Rhythm Racing lets players pre-load into massive jumps and clutch through hairpin turns at full speed all while retaining the smooth and authentic feel not found in any other game. Attempt to own the offroad by dominating the innovative new "X-Cross Tournament ". X-Cross brings together 6 unique racing series like Opencross, Supercross, Rally and Supermoto and then crosses them into one ultimate offroad championship. Brand new styles of racing are born as powerful vehicles tear through treacherous trails in the new Opencross mode, while then shifting gears to navigate asphalt and dirt in Supermoto. Players can take control of the Monster and Trophy Trucks as they blitz through rough rivers, rip though swampy everglades, and blaze through the desert dunes. 1. A big, noisy, dumb racer. Terrific fun! [Issue#20, p.89]
  2. Thw Wii version has Wii remote racing, tricking, and pre-loading, and both have some slightly different events, so if you don't have a next-gen console you're still getting some solid racing. [Jan 2008, p.89]
  3. Untamed is one of the best offroad racing games on the Wii and is well worth playing, or at least trying if you haven't experienced this genre before.
  4. Trying to shoehorn a 360/PS3 game onto the Wii is like getting a Super Model to woof down a 10-pound ham. What comes out the other side just isn't pretty. Still tastes okay though! [Dec 2007, p.66]

The physics system is going to be a bit too floaty for some, but those looking for a less sim-like experience will find it entertaining enough. It’s a first-gen game for Wii though, so expect things to get much, much better in the future.
  6. Motocross fans may dig what Untamed's shoveling, but the casual racer will want to hold out for a certain kart game on the horizon. [Jan 2008, p.90]
  7. As a motorcross game MX vs. ATV Untamed would have been nice to play. But the quality of the game has really been lowered by adding vehicles like buggies and monstertrucks. These could better have been removed from the game. When it comes to graphics this game can't cope with its competitors. It's a disappointing feeling to have a game in your possession which feels like an oldy.

Certain things are great about this game. I like the new tracks, new tricks, and overall, I'm quite entertained. Other things are slightly annoying.

    1) The AI riders all seem to ride about .5 seconds apart. You either take 1st or 8th.

    2) No matter which control method I use, I can't seem to find one that allows me to make a more controlled turn. I find myself shooting off to the left or right of the track a LOT coming out of turns because the controller input.
