*I have never played the original so i will not give it a rating based on a comparisong between the 2 like some reviewers have.* This game is truly a tragedy. There are loads of great ideas and promising content, but nothing can save it from its almost totally nonsensical dialogue and lack of a cohesive plot. There are loads of great ideas and promising content, but nothing can save it from its almost totally nonsensical dialogue and lack of a cohesive plot. The most story you get out of this game (that makes sense) is obtained through scrolls that display story text. There are really only 4 good points to this game. 1. The diskarmor is one of the most unique main weapons you'll ever use in an adventure game, and the fact you get three different diskarmors that all have very different styles and abilities is what keeps this game at a 5. 2. is the music, which has some questionable moments, but for the most part is done very tastefully and well timed. 3. is the boss battles and level design towards the end of the game. If only the first 5 hours played like the last 2 this game would have been a couple points higher in my book. Lastly is the updated character design. Like i said i didn't play the original version but i have seen both characters, and i must say, anime hair aside, the updated color scheme of the outfit, and even hair, is much more satisfying and charismatic.
The only thing else i would like to add is that i have seen 1 cinematic cutscene from the original version and it automatically gives it one point higher than this version. This wii version only had one cinematic cut scene and it was very out of nowhere. A very disappointing experience for a game i was hoping would revive the franchise.

  1. Worth at least a rental. [Holiday 2008, p.77]

What may have been impressive in 2002 feels pretty dated today. This is an unnecessary port that doesn't add enough new content to warrant strapping your disk armor back on.

I can't in good faith recommend Rygar: The Battle of Argus--both fans of the original and newcomers should avoid it. [Feb 2009, p.77]
