  • Summary: Backbreaker: Vengeance takes the intensity and AAA appeal of the original Backbreaker Football console game and combines it with the pick-up-and-play nature of the multi-million selling iPhone games to create a whole new one-of-a-kind sports experience for digital download on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360. It takes as its inspiration the wildly popular "Tackle Alley" mini-game in Backbreaker Football to deliver an all-new arcade slant on football. Expand

Backbreaker Vengeance is so far from a sim, it's hard to say any given gamer couldn't enjoy it, no matter their tastes.

The American football game for those who don't like American football, as it rules out simulation in favor of an arcade obstacle course. Its price might be a bit too high considering its roots as an iPhone game, but this is pure fun while it lasts.

Visually, the game packs a solid punch with the Euphoria physics engine as the highlight of the package.

Provides a few rounds of fun, but the control problems, price point, and lack of variety and real football stand as glaring indicators that this experience probably should have stayed on a mobile platform.

  1. If you were expecting 11 on 11 regulation football, then you need to look elsewhere. Backbreaker Vengeance is not Madden. It's more like the football equivalent of Trials HD. And if you're willing to accept it for what it is, then you'll soon find that Backbreaker Vengeance is awesome.

Here's the gist of it. You guide a running back / defensive back / ninja through over 300 obstacle courses. You vault over, slide under, and truck motherf**kers on your way to either (a) a ball carrier or (b) the endzone. But that's only the half of it. The real object of the game is to score as many points as possible and get your name posted at the top of the leader boards. Taking greater risks will net you extra points.

Some guy said that the controls were sloppy in one of the reviews I read. Guess what? That guy is full of s**t. This game feels perfect. Performing special moves on dudes feels extremely satisfying. I've heard complaints about not being able to turn on a dime. That's BS. Maintaining the right speed for a specific challenge is part of the strategy that goes behind the game. Run too fast and your turns will end up being too wide. Run too slow, and you'll end up having to deal with the defenders that just caught up with your a$$.

Some people are saying $15 is too much to pay for this game. That's bull. Trials HD is the same price and there's less of a game there. Hell, Child of Eden is $50 and Backbreaker Vengeance has waaay more content than that game. The only complaint I have is that I wish there was a qb attack mode. But this is an awesome game overall.

  2. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
  3. Plain old stupid for the price. If this game was under 800 msp, i would buy it, but this repetitive, dull, fake football game just doesn't appeal to anyone (Did backbreaker 1 in the first place?). Expand
