  • Summary: Battlestations: Pacific takes the action/strategy gameplay of Battlestations: Midway to the next level with more intense, strategic combat. Players can take to the skies and seas through two massive, action-packed campaigns across 28 missions, featuring some of the most decisive naval battles in history. A historically accurate U.S. campaign puts players in command of the U.S. Navy’s Pacific fleet through the Battles of Guadalcanal and on to Iwo Jima, Okinawa and victory. For the first time, players have a chance to rewrite history, commanding a Japanese campaign as the Imperial Japanese Navy from Pearl Harbor to Asia, Australia and beyond, expanding its empire throughout the Pacific Rim. Battlestations: Pacific takes the battle online with a massively enhanced multiplayer experience, offering five new and innovative co-op and team-based modes for up to eight players. ‘Siege’ and ‘Duel’ offer an all-out action experience, allowing players to control a selection of war machines as each side battles to turn the tide of war; joining forces for ‘Competitive’, players compete side-by-side against the opposing AI forces; ‘Escort’ allows for a mix of action and strategy, with players escorting or attacking a key naval unit as it heads to its destination; and ‘Island Capture’ offers a compelling strategic experience, with players not only battling for supremacy of the seas, but also capturing and controlling the island archipelago. 1. What Battlestations Pacific delivers is something that is all too rare these days. This is a game that's fun and action-packed without treating the customer like a fool. The blend of realism and arcade fun is beautifully balanced - think of this as the warfare equivalent of Project Gotham Racing.
  2. A very enjoyable strategic shooter, with plenty of depth and some hugely enjoyable moments.
  3. The multiplayer serves up a hearty meal, the graphics are improved, and the campaign will consume many hours of your life.
  4. Battlestations: Pacific is not a game for everyone. Its unique gameplay, and its good mix between action and strategy may appeal to many players, as well as represent an obstacle to some others. It's highly recommended to those who love – difficult – Second World War games, but with a different and appealing approach.

  1. Although this game is not for everyone, it is my favorite strategy game. Being able to independently control a individual unit and have a major battle is epic. The variety of units in the game is also a great bonus and the different abilities to destroy a single unit makes the game fun. Some of the major problems in the are the occasional glitches with the ships, and the inability to shot paratroopers out of the air. Expand

I know, I know, this rating seems a little steep, but this game is great. It offers a great blend between strategy and action that you don39;t find with other games. The Naval combat (with Air Support) is a fresh change from regular old FPSs or Air only games... There's a demo on XBox Live; check it out for yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if you quicky see why there are lots of us who absolutely love this game (and the first one, Battlestations: Midway, even though it had some annoying bugs and a weak multiplayer setup, which have been addressed in this sequel). 3. Definitely an improvement on Battlestations Midway in several aspects, yet the two are different experiences. Pacific is more arcade than serious, as planes re-arm in the air rather than return to base. That Midway magic is gone, where you knew if you missed your torpedo then you had wasted a plane trip. If you want an easy to enjoy game, Pacific has the quality. If you want intense moments and punishing situations then stick with Midway. I'd give it a 7/10 if there were better games in the genre. I rated the game only this highly because of how nice the multiplayer is. In my opinion, Pacific not only fixed a few issues, like making the torpedo's faster so they would be harder to dodge, but created new ones. First of all, the level of detail into the maps was awesome, however, I liked the simplistic strategic map of Midway, which has become confusing and bulky in this one. One of the key errors the game designers made in the game was making the multiplayer able to 'spawn' ships at will based on supplies. It takes away from the strategic sense of the game and goes back to just who can put out more firepower faster to overwhelm the enemy, as what makes RTS games so boring. If you like single player more then multiplayer, or you loved Midway, this game could be for you, if not, don't bother. Expand
