  • Summary: [Xbox Live Arcade] In Boom Boom Rocket, players trigger rockets to the beat of the music while traveling through a 3D cityscape. The better the player times the explosions, the more spectacular the fireworks effects. The fireworks are choreographed to 10 original tracks created by Ian Livingstone. Players can play in single player mode or go head-to-head against a friend on the same console. The game features three modes of gameplay: Normal, Speed and multiplayer head-to-head. Each song is choreographed into three skill levels to ensure that everyone can join in the fun. Successfully chain fireworks to fill the bonus meter and activate the psychedelic bonus mode for extra points. Players can unlock new firework designs by mastering each music track. You can also utilize the connected online element and see how their scores compare with other players on the Boom Boom Rocket leaderboard. [Electronic Arts] Expand

  1. A visual treat; even more so than its immensely popular "Geometry Wars." The tweaked classic tracks may not be for everyone, but at least they tie into the gameplay, making Boom Boom Rocket a very unique offering in the ever-surprising lineup of Xbox Live Arcade games.
  2. Taste in music is always a personal thing, but we absolutely love Boom Boom's 10 modern takes on famous classical music, which veer from ska to disco to electronica and good 'ol metal. [June 2007, p.70]
  3. Despite being sandwiched between two high-profile music games, Boom Boom Rocket offers a unique and vibrant gameplay experience that is really unmatched by anything else out there.

Another excellent and approachable leaderboard-chasing romp through colourfully lit cityscapes with an upbeat tempo soundtrack. Though it's perhaps a little short-lived due to the limited tracks currently available, it's a lot of fun while it lasts.

The music tracks aren't great, but it's still a good game. It's comparable to DDR or Guitar Hero, but with out the accesories or price. It has satisfying achievements that make for hours of gameplay, but not much replay value. Expand

Whilst not revolutionary, BBR is a fun game. Whether you like the music varies by taste, but I like the tracks. Definitely worth a try. Could also be worth getting if you already own a Guitar Hero guitar or the 360 dance pad. Expand

Basically it's Dance Dance Revolution played on your controller. Both fun and challenging.
  4. Choice of songs? Terrible. Gameplay? Non-existent. Difficulty? varies too much. The only reason I can't give it a 0 is because I have a sweet spot for games where you constantly press buttons. One thing's for sure- you won't be idle watching the screen in this. It's so simple- you just press the buttons when they come up and you have to time it right. 4 buttons, one simple goal- but one hard as hell challenge on higher speeds. Obviously you would be a bafoon to pay for this, but it might be worth a try if you have an XBLA Compilation Disc. Expand
