Great change of pace. To many FPS's. I love it...

A fantastic addition to an already awesome series. A really good game!

It may not be as perfect as the 1st dmc but this gave me one hell of a journey i wont forget,graphics and story are great!nt everybody will like it but if you dont like mazes,plenty of button mashing action and nt your average story well then simply dont buy it.

Awesome new features, gota love new character Nero and his devil bringer, dante now has more freedom in combat and Pandora is one hell of a suitcase.

Simply my favourite game EVER!! Can't get much better than this. Graphics are AMAZING!! The story line is great. I was one of the people who was very unsure about the new main character Nero, as i have played the whole DMC series and totally love Dante. However on playing this game i very much enjoyed playing as Nero. And later getting th play as Dante again made my day. Dante is always going to be better than Nero though!! Okay so this game may be a bit of a button basher, but its by far the best game on 360!! Definately buy it!!… Expand

It's just again one hell of a game! The gameplay still rocks and they passed the jump to the next-gen consoles without a scratch!

This game the best devil may cry game you can get. the graphics are fantastic and so are the weapons.

Awesome game, may be a bit repetitive but thats always been its style, you other love it or hate it. The bosses are amazing and so are the environments. Its not a deep, revitilisation of the genre like resident evil 4 was for survival horrors, but if you were a fan of DMC 3 you will like this.

This is the first title of the series that i have ever played and i was simply amazed at the fact that i hadn't discovered this game until now. The graphics are AMAZING the gameplay differs and remains exciting in order for the great long hours of gameplay it produces! the ONLY fault i found was SOMETIMES the camera angles bothered me but this game was simply too good to pass up for any less than a 10.… Expand

Honestly? Best god damn game i played so far, the exact game type that i love and adore, the super powers, the combos, the spec effects, graphics! First game that i decided to replay right after i finished it, but now on legendary dark knight difficulty, and you know what? It feels even better now! Well earned 10/10

Excellent! After the perfect DMC 3, Capcom gave us a great sequel, and with the same Dante of the previous game (Reuben Langdon did an excellent job as voice actor and mocap actor). Style Switch on the fly makes the gameplay perfect, giving the player the chance to make expectacular combo chains. More combos than DMC 3 and the add of a new character on the franchise, giving new story possibilities for the future. The only flaw of this game is Dante backtracking Nero stages, but still, the game is fast-paced and extremelly fun. Also, Gothic enviroments looks more beautiful than ever. Weapons design is very creative and the smart humor is glorious! Brillant game!… Expand

''Devil May Cry 4'' is everything that a hack and slash game should be and it's the best in the series because DMC was the worst in the series I can't believe that but I still play this game until now.

Devil May Cry is one of my favorite game franchises, and this game lived up to the hype I've had since it was announced.

It s hard to me how anyone can score this game under 8. Deep combat system,difficult levels from casual to hardcore, beautiful graphics, full action packed, 60fps, a lot of style.... Good work again Capcom

As expected, DMC4 is what DMC should be: rough, tough, fast, and flowing with style. Although short, the plot structure is strong and deep, giving characters that one can admire and identify with. Nero certainly was a nice risk to take and was a very admirable character to have in the series. Nicely ranged techniques for both Nero and Dante, with distinguished combos a challenge to execute and for good reason. The difficulty range in itself I believe was nice and balanced, offering a slow, steady mode for new gamers, and Devil Hunter for the more experienced ones, moving on to Son of Sparda and harder difficulties (which need to be unlocked). Achievements are quite difficult to get, and require time, especially ones associated with the arena-like Blood Palace, and any difficulty mode, even easy, will put the average player through his paces. Those that say the game is too easy or repetitive probably have not played on the higher-up levels quite yet. Into hack-n-slash? Into games that require the cut above? Give this a spin.… Expand

DMC4 is terrible fun to play. For me that's a 9. The graphics are beatifully designed and the engine is almost rock solid. The control is well crafted and woth practice the combo sequences can be excitating. It has a very high replay value with Bloogy Palace and patterns and enemies varying from one level of difficulty to another. Story has no weight, but the cinematic sequences are espectacular and the speech from Dante and Nero are fun from a comedy point of view.… Expand

Perhaps not the perfection served up by the original action opera, but nonetheless this is one stylish slasher!

Overall a very solid game. Any fan of the first 3 will not be disappointed. I'm glad they've finally decided to release this game for the Xbox.

There are some bad things about this game. The level design leaves you out wandering around confused. Dante's weapons have half the combos and moves of DMC3's weapons. Three of the bosses are recycled a bit too much. And the worst thing is the story isn't all that great (although it is nowhere near as bad ad DMC2's plot.) Now for the good things about this game... Nero's one of the best hack and slash character's ever. His combo's are varied and easy to pull off. The exceed system with his sword brings something refreshingly new. He has a homing beacon to help him find secrets in the game, like hidden levels. And best of all he is the first hack and slash character in ages to have a throw button. The Style system is easier to use thanks to a style bar that goes down slower than DMC3. You can switch between all of Dante's fighting styles and weapons in the middle of a fight by just hitting the trigger and D-pad buttons. All and all this game has it's flaws but it also has it's strengths (which are being overlooked in the reviews). Also could metacritic please do a better job of screening reviews? One of the worst reviews for this game baselessly bashes it simply because the plot is anime based. They even go so far as to call the whole game Animoo garbage.… Expand

Very fun, VERY solid game. easily the best in the series. thanks to Nero, it has all the exciting newness that was felt in the first DMC, and it also has the difficulty and challenge of DMC3. gorgeous graphics (especially in the lighting department), slick, fluid, uninterruped gameplay, awesome cutscenes, a (FINALLY) fully customizeable control scheme... the list of triumphs goes on. i especially like Dante's new ultra-cocky demeanor. some of the bouts between Dante, Nero, and certain bosses are nothing short of hilarious (Dante vs. the She-serpent ftw!). that being said, the game isn't without flaws. it is EXTREMELY repetitive. as in, Halo 1 repetitive. for those of you who haven't played Halo 1, the last 1/3 of the game is essentially the same thing as the first 2/3. only in reverse. DMC 4 does this exact same thing. and also expect to be fighting a lot of the same bosses two, and even three times with VERY little variation in the fights. with the exception of Lucifer, an exploding energy sword, none of the aquired weapons are that interesting to use. the Gauntlets (a normally fun staple in the DMC series) are useless, and the Pandora, a 666-in-1 gun is way too tough to use to be practical in any way. but, the game is fun, if somewhat short. haven't quite beaten it yet, but my guess is it falls somewhere in the 14-16 hour range, assuming you just breeze through it and not worry about extras or anything like that too much. there is probably enough extra things on the harder difficulties to warrant a couple extra playthroughs, but like all the rest of the DMC games, don't expect a lot of lasting appeal. still, a must buy, especially for any DMC fans who have been waiting to see the series on the Xbox. I have to disagree with the user who says that Nero is not the Raiden of the DMC series. He is. Also as most should know you do get to play as Dante for 8 chapters of the game. I can say that I had more fun playing the Dante chapters than the Nero chapters (Dante's Pandoras Box is so gnarly). Nero's Devil Arm is cool, but the controlls and camera can get wonky when using it. I also do not like the throttle on Nero's s sword. It is lame to have to rev it 9 times to get a charge that depletes in three swings. Other than that I have no complaints. Overall, this game is a solid exerience that you will be eager to play through mulitple times. Ultimatly when you have a hack and slasher that contains demons, devils, guns, swords, heavy metal, and smokin hot babes, what is there not to like.… Expand

This game totally rocks. people that complain about the easy difficulty level obviously didn't even try it on devil hunter difficulty or the difficulty levels unlocked after you beat the game. Also, if cinematics bother you, perss START. Its that easy.

Reclycled enviroments and boss fights super linear level design and simple puzzels so devil may cry is a bad game yes HELL NO! despite devil may cry's many faults none of them matter because devil may cry has simply the deepest most rewarding hack and slash combat in any game ever its a fantastic display of skill and style all wrapped up in some of the best graphics ever made that makes devil may cry 4 such a delight to play.… Expand

Good game, bit repetitive, very enjoyable in small doses.

The game is solid, however the human mode is too easy and the Devil Hunter mode is too much of a difference in the increase of difficulty. Don't make me remind you about the harder difficulties such as Heaven Or Hell, Dante Must Die.

The game is amazing the cinematics are great so is the gameplay which allows you to use many different combos to take your enemies down however the grading system at the end of each mission could be done better and a certain boss proves to be quite hard.

Though as disappointing as it may sound but you cannot play as Dante ,but people don't mistake nero to be Raiden of mgs so when you start unleashing that devil bringer on those poor demons u understand that nero ain't no less than the accomplished Dante. So I strongly recommend this game to all those obsessed gamers who enjoy hack n slash genre cuz baby it doesn't get better than this though perhaps some people won't agree with me fine ya it might not be better than many in this genre but it is worth playing for anybody who owns ps3 0r xbox 360.it won't disappoint you.… Expand

A very good entry into the DMC series, with tight controls, engaging combat, and gorgeous visuals. It just seems that a Devil May Cry game should focus more on Dante, not the somewhat generic Nero.

DMC 4 has a few flaws, combat can be repetitive, camera angle can sometimes get really annoying. But as a whole DMC 4 is a nice solid game with a decent story line, spectacular boss fights and visuals.

Ok, obviously Rtrtrt R. has never played the game, or he didn't get very far-- all fans of Dante, don't worry, you play about half of the game as him, you just have to beat the first half of the game. And also, Eugenio M., the game might've been way too easy on the first two modes, but I'm sorry, all the modes you unlock afterwards are in no way easy. Especially modes like Hell or Hell, where it's a one-hit death. And the two biggest complaints of the game I can agree with somewhat, but not enough to really detract from the fun factor of the game: the camera could be slightly annoying sometimes, but it honestly never messed me up in anything other than a minor way; and the back tracking was repetitive, but since the combat system is so fun (and you get to play around with some of Dante's new powers), the levels aren't boring and are still enjoyable. It is a very solid game, and is more than fun-- and the cinematics (which, Eugenio, again, how can you have too many of? if you don't want cinematics, don't buy a game with even a remote trace of a plot) were a pure joy to watch, with the ridiculous yet awesome action. I suggest this game to anyone interested, but those who are slightly wary, at least rent it, and if somehow you don't enjoy it, you didn't lose too much in the process. (Oh, and for achievement mongers, (I speak as one of you) the achievements are difficult unless you are a fairly seasoned DMC player. If not, you'll likely hit about 200 or so, which stems from beating the game on the first two modes and racking up orbs and souls.)… Expand

Devil May Cry 4 may not be the best of the Hack n Slash genre of games or the best of the series, but definitely has a lot of depth in the combat whilst playing as Dante and strategy and ease of use when playing as Nero. Even though the main levels become repetitive, the game still deserves praise for its good cutscenes and decent story and romantic side plot. Dante obviously steals the show but then again it's not really a DMC game without Dante. I was glad they improved upon the style system from DMC 3 but I was sort of disappointed at the removal of some styles but it was compensated with the removal of having to select one style for one mission.
As for Nero, his combat technique is a little bit different. it requires precise timing in order to power up the sword combos and the player must take note of whether they'll risk themselves when using the devil trigger arm that can do throws that Dante cannot. The platforming and puzzles are either too long or just plain pointless. The enemies though are slow don't always notify the player when they're attack. At the most, the boss battles compensate for the extra challenge depending the difficulty.
It's a lovely game but could have been better if there wasn't so much repetition, but the game certainly is a favourite. I could hope that Capcom remake DMC 3 with the multi-style system of DMC 4 or maybe make another DMC game (not that Ninja Theory stuff but the new one was okay)… Expand

DMC 4 Is a fast paced, action packed game with great game play that becomes repetitive as many 3rd person action games fall prey to. More than a third of the game involves backtracking which can be annoying and shows how thin the game truley is. The cut scenes tell the narrative and there are plenty o them. There is replayability if you love beating your scores or placing on leaderboards.

Just like the older games, with just with better graphics.

This game doesn't have the action sequences it claims to have. I got his quite a while after it came, after hearing so many good things about it, but it can feel so boring sometimes. Love-story's good, control are great, but the combat isn't fun at all. No offense to anyone, but I much prefer Bayonetta. It feels much more action-packed and the characters have more charm and hilarity to them. Pick this up if your a fan, but anyone else should just leave it be.… Expand

I must first address a grievance of mine. The most appalling thing in this game is the repetition of the levels and bosses halfway through the game. Players control new character Nero for the first half and Dante for the second half. Their combat styles are only moderately different so it is incredibly tedious to replay the same thing all over again. I find it incredible that a respected development team would decide to deceive players in this way. Okay moving on. The combat in DMC4 is fast and effective but is let down by clunky dodge mechanics. Considering how important dodging is in a game like this, this is a glaring flaw. Graphically, the game is excellent but the plot, characters and writing are much less so.… Expand

Honestly, I found this to be a rather weak continuation of the series. Nero is nowhere near as interesting as Dante, and should not even exist in my opinion. Devil May Cry should ALWAYS be centered around Dante. The combat is good, the visuals are good, the story is good, but some rather lame characters (aside from Dante.) A real shame considering just how right they got the series with Devil May Cry 3. Devil May Cry 4 does not technically do anything wrong as it more or less follows the Devil May Cry formula of 1 & 3. But that is perhaps the problem, on a new generation of consoles I did expect them to go further, instead they played it safe and just did what they did before. Game looks beautiful with creative environments and atmosphere, but it fails in gameplay, full of repetitive button mashing madness.

I've had a chance to play this game and let me tell you...over rated! Repetitive hack and slash is ultimately a disappointment. Come on Capcom...you've lost your edge.

Unlike it's incredibly exciting and stylish predecessor, Devil May Cry 4 feels like a boring chore.

I'll admit, the combat is incredible... only when you posses the character Dante. Other wise you play as the incredibly uninteresting and unexplained Nero who has your typical hack n' slash move set. With Nero, you can button mash your way through the first sets of levels. Compared to Dante, Nero has a underwhelming move set. Although, unlike Dante, Nero has Devil Bringer. As you can guess, it brings enemies closer to him for some interesting aerial maneuvers, but not enough to keep you interested.

As for Dante, this is where the game shines. Luckily, they removed the feature from Devil May Cry 3 in which you are forced into picking one Style for the mission. Now, you can switch instantly with the d-pad, and can pull of some sick combos.
Unfortunately, you are only backtracking through Nero's levels, which gets really repetitive.

However, this game has some of the best boss battles in the series, as well as the toughest. Berial was interesting, but the best ones were Credo and The Savior. Credo in particular. Sadly, with an awful story line, the game doesn't convey enough emotion for me to care about most of these characters, and the boss battles I'm fighting. While in Devil May Cry 3, I actually felt like the dual between Dante and Vergil was important, and I wanted to beat it.

The puzzles in this game are very simple, and feel like pointless padding. Especially since the focus is combat, where this game succeeds.

I'd talk about the story, but it's virtually non-existent. Overall, it's a very underwhelming title in the series, considering that it only gets somewhat good half way through the game. Not worth it. Mediocre.… Expand

The quality of presentation on this game was fantastic, but the gameplay falls short. God of War changed the Action genre a long time ago (by video game standards), and DMC4 just doesn't live up to that new standard. There was a time back on the Creamcast or the Playstation 1 that this kind of repetitive gameplay is exactly what we would have expected from an action title, but we expect more now. The game was alo artificially lengthened near the end by a die-based game that required landing on particular spots in a circle, and game developers took the easy route, but having the player beat each boss monster 3 times. The incredible visuals, and stunning cut-scenes carry the player through what would have otherwise been a lack-luster experience. I played through the title, but put it in my sell pile immediately after the final credits rolled.… Expand

Very repetitive, very blurry at times which gives me a headache, and pretty boring. The most exciting part of the game is the cinematic video... not the game play.

Overall a repetitive game lacking any real need of thought. The franchise has repeatedly gone downhill since the first one as capcom haven't spiced it up that much at all. This game is not worth a purchase but if you must try renting it out first.

Honestly, I hated it. The campaign is so cheap and ridiculous, it's unbelievable. So first off you start as Nero - a cross between Ex Man Utd football player Ronaldo and Metal Gear's Raiden - and you bash through 11 boring levels of hack N' Slash. At level 12 you become Dante, AND YOU HAVE TO PLAY THROUGH THE PREVIOUS 11 LEVELS AGAIN IN REVERSE ORDER... Such a cheap and shoddy way of drawing out a game. To make matters worse, if you want more then 100 achievement points, you have to complete the game another 6 times (each mode becomes progressively harder). The only redeeming feature is that it has nice backgrounds… Expand

This game is hateful. Looks and presentation like a Porshe 911, contains the engine of a Morris Minor. Great Graphics and then that's it. The puzzles wouldn't trouble the brain of a three year old but test the patience of anyone with a decent IQ (Anyone who gave this a high score must have loved smacking those Gyros around, personally , I'd have rather gone to the dentist for a few extractions).
