Meteos Wars is definitely a lean package, putting in just the bare essentials, and while it might lack the visual zest of some of Q Entertainment’s better-known titles, the gameplay, which hits the right balance between approachability and replayability, more than makes up the difference.
From the looks of things the formula is still going strong and is in no real danger of becoming stale any time in the near future. [Feb 2009, p.113]
With all that content to complement its addictiveness, Meteos Wars shouldn't be missed by those who crave block puzzles. [Holiday 2008, p.69]
For Xbox Live Arcade it's not quite the return to last summer's form, and there are more substantial falling-blocks puzzle games with comparable production values elsewhere on the service (Lumines Live, for instance), but if you can look past its slender framework and online issues then Meteos Wars is a decent death blow to a few otherwise productive evenings, and more proof from Q that there's life in the old blocks yet.
The lesson here is that if you own a DS, you're far better off buying the original than you are settling for this new port that comes in high on style but low on substance.
Put simply, it works exactly how you'd expect a tech demo for touch screen to work when the touch screen's taken away. [Issue#39]
