  • Summary: Naval Assault: The Killing Tide follows a dramatic storyline of subterfuge inspired by the events of WWII where you command a fully armed submarine. Engage in sea warfare against enemy ships, subs and aircrafts, leading a daring US Naval Special Ops team across 30 levels that culminate in a spectacular sea battle. [505 Games] Expand

  1. Forget this Killing Tide (you can, in fact, die by boredom) and look for a more exciting war sim (Battlestation should do the trick).
  2. Naval Assault – The killing tide should have been an arcade game. It would have been a good advice to 505 Games to do so. But they decided to release it as a full-price game. But for this, it is too simple and its gameplay is too stupid.

If Naval Assault had been a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade title, it would have been easy to forgive a lot of its shortcomings. Unfortunately, it's not; it looks like a last-gen game, with some of the worst sound design and music I've seen in a retail release, no mid-mission checkpoints, and most importantly, not much to hold one's interest for more than a few fleeting moments.
  4. Naval Assault: The Killing Tide could have been good. The idea of submarine warfare is still exciting, and the Battlestations series has shown that submarines are still very powerful vehicles of war. Unfortunately, the pacing of the title as well as the indecision between a simulation and arcade style hurts the game significantly.
  5. The idea of publishing a submarine game for a console was as attractive as dangerous. Sadly, Naval Assault is disappointing, failing in almost everything it tries to accomplish.
  6. Online deathmatches are an abandoned ship. [Sept 2010, p.81]
  7. This would have been a shoddy effort as an Xbox Live Arcade title, but seeing it on a store shelf is less of a salute to the military's naval forces, and more of a slap in their faces.
